Lipping is only excusable when 1. You are doing intense, extensive choreo and 2. You lip to new, prerecorded vocals.
I respect K. Row's BET performance despite lipping because she was dancing and had new, prerecorded vocals. It also didn't hurt that she later performed it completely live in the same way and still killed it.
Most people in this world don't know anything about singing.
It's impossible to move a lot and dancing (even if it's not an very difficult choreography) while singing, at the same time.Try to do it at home with your favourite song and you will see the musical massacre you'll be responsible of.
Some fans are completely delusional if they think their idol are not lip syncing when they sound exactly the same every tour dates, on several songs, or when they stumble on stage and their singing is somehow not affected at all !
There's a reason why Michael, Madonna, Janet & Britney''s most memorable performances were lipped and even though I understand the criticism against this practice, it's a necessary evil that gave us some of the greatest moments in pop culture history.
If a performer fails to tell their audience that they're lip-synching, it amounts to deception. The performer is no better than someone who sells you a house with a leaking roof.
Ke$ha agrees. She thinks you're cheating your audience when you lip-synch:
Quote:
Ke$ha claims to have helped Britney Spears write her songs before becoming famous in her own right (for hit single "TiK ToK," primarily) and now she is slamming Britney's lip-syncing ways.
"I don't think that's fair at all for people who are going to see the show," she told Scotland's Daily Record. "I think if you are going to be a singer, you should sing. If you are going to be a dancer, you should dance. If you are going to do a combination of the two, you should make it very clear when you are singing and very clear when you are dancing."
Throngs of disappointed fans stormed out of a Britney Spears lip-syncing concert in Australia last year.
"It's treating people as if they are too stupid to realize you are not actually singing," Ke$ha continued. "Sometimes it is hard to sing and dance at the same time, but I would rather be off and be real and genuine about it to my fans. I don't want to treat my fans like they are stupid...When I am singing, I may sound s--t sometimes, but at least you'll know I'm singing."
Ke$ha recently lashed out at Britney Spears for lip-synching during her concerts.
"I think that's bullsh--," Ke$ha reportedly told the U.K.'s Daily Record. "I don't think that's fair at all for people who are going to see the show. I think if you are going to be a singer, you should sing. If you are going to be a dancer, you should dance."
Ke$ha, who sang background vocals on Britney's 2008 track "Lace and Leather," said Spears should be clearer about which parts of her show are live and which are pre-recorded. "If you are going to do a combination of the two, you should make it very clear when you are singing and very clear when you are dancing," she said. "I would never do that to my fans."
But even though her comments were harsh, Ke$ha said she meant no offense to Spears. "People have asked me before to mime," she explained. "I have been up at 3 in the morning for a television show with jet lag, but I refuse to mime ... It's treating people as if they are too stupid to realize you are not actually singing.
"Sometimes it is hard to sing and dance at the same time but I would rather be off and be real and genuine about it to my fans. I don't want to treat my fans like they are stupid."
A representative for Ke$ha had not responded to MTV News' requests for comment at press time, and a spokesperson for Spears had no comment.
"That is my take on my fans and life in general," said Ke$ha. "My whole record is super-honest. I am really honest. When I am singing I may sound sh---y sometimes, but at least you'll know I'm singing."
She never sings and dances at the same time. She heavily relies on per-recorded vocals, she never sings the choruses, and when she dances, she usually gives her mic to the dancers.
*Watches Billboard Awards 2011*
She is shaking her head and still giving us vocals better than most of the girls in the game....Don't know if I am a proud Beyoncé fan or an ashamed fan of...Well, anyone else.
Britney has lost so much credibility because of that.
Nah. Have you seen most of the reviews of her Billboard Music Awards performances last year?
OK:

Last night, Britney Spears was back to looking ultra seductive. She was the Britney who digs ensembles like those that inspire the bondage look. However this sounds, the look was appropriate given the scene (the 2011 Billboard Awards) and the occasion (singing S&M with Rihanna).
News had circulated that Britney Spears was going to show up in Las Vegas for this huge musical shindig held at the MGM Grand on May 22, 2011, but nobody was sure this would come to pass. And nobody had any ideas of what the salty singer would do, say or wear.
But she didn't disappoint.
In fact, when Britney Spears opened the 2011 Billboard Music Awards with Rihanna, the two were both wearing jeweled handcuffs, with Brit in black and Ri in white. And yes, the costumes were sexy and seductive, as was the choreography which included a pillow fight between the two girls and some pole dancing, too.
During the number, there was even a kiss between the two women--shades of Britney and Madonna at the MTV Awards years ago and apt fare for a remix of a song called S&M.
So, as Britney Spears appeared in bondage fashion to open the 2011 Billboard Awards, she was as saucy as the Britney who always surprised. And this is exactly what Spears did last night when she appeared in Las Vegas with Rihanna, a thrill for all avid fans.

Britney Spears is back in form, looking effortlessly sexy as she performed a surprise duet with Rihanna at last night's Billboard Music Awards.
The pair took to the stage in leotards, Britney in black and Rihanna in white and performed RiRi's hit, S&M.
The pair opened the award ceremony at the MGM Grand, showing off their pole dancing skills and eventually having a pillow fight with their backing dancers.
Britney proved she's back on top, ready tor reclaim her crown!

Rihanna’s show-opening performance of her recent no. 1 single “S&M” became a spectacular production when Spears joined a white-vinyl-clad RiRi onstage in her own black vinyl naughty-bunny gear for panting, pole-dancing, and a (semi)climactic pillow fight.

With Britney Spears onstage, you could have almost forgotten that Sunday's Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas were really about naming Eminem Artist of the Year (along with Top Album and Top Rap Album), Taylor Swift the Top Country Artist and Album Artist and the Biebs the New Artist of the Year (along with Digital Artist and Fan Favorite).

The famous singer appears to be on top of the world. Britney Spears is in love with Jason Trawick, with whom she appeared strolling on the backstage of the Billboard Awards and looked like she couldn’t possibly want anything else. The singer is in one of her best shapes and enchanted the audience during her duo with Rihanna at the Awards. Both women appeared in leather catsuits and performed the “S&M” song which they sealed with a kiss at the end, becoming the talk of the media.
It is a good change for Britney who made her fans worry. That is no longer the case. The singer managed to turn her life around and has a stable relationship with Jason Trawick, her former agent.

Britney Spears made quite the splash at Sunday's Billboard Music Awards, popping up twice for sexy performances with fellow artists Rihanna and Nicki Minaj.
For the remix of Rihanna's bondage hit "S&M," Spears emerged in a Bettie Page-esque bunny mask and enjoyed a dual pole-dancing routine with her redheaded counterpart.

Britney Spears thrilled crowds at the 2011 Billboard Awards last night by putting on a raunchy rendition of RiRi's hit tune, S&M, to open the ceremony.
The duo, who teamed up on a remix of the sexy song earlier this year, took to the stage in PVC bondage-style outfits, teamed with knee-high boots, chains and fish-net tights, to perform the song live together for the first time.
Spears also wore dominatrix style masks as she appeared on the stage with a bunch of scantily-clad dancers, before taking part in kinky pillow fight.
Once the feathers cleared, the pair were seen smooching - bringing back memories of the Hold It Against Me hitmaker's sexy snog with Madonna at the MTV VMAs eight years ago.

Britney Spears sent temperatures soaring at the Billboard Awards last night.
She sizzled onstage as she danced around with topless dancers and slid provocatively up and down poles with Rihanna.
They also donned sexy masks, got tied up in kinky chains and took part in a pillow fight during their heart-racing performance of S&M.
Mind-blowing performance.
Their embrace brought back memories of Britney's famous smooch with Madonna at the MTV Awards eight years ago.
Her vigorous workouts ahead of her Femme Fatale tour this summer have got Britney back into tip top shape and she more than held her own against Rihanna's incredibly toned physique. Back to her best.
Britney's 'Circus' tour is the fifth most profitable tour of all-time and all she was doing on stage was lipping, walking, looking hot and beautiful, and smiling. People don’t give a ****.
She never sings and dances at the same time. She heavily relies on per-recorded vocals, she never sings the choruses, and when she dances, she usually gives her mic to the dancers.
yes,but she live sigining with high dance performances! and For 2 hours.. this live sigining and dancing at the same time means
She is shaking her head and still giving us vocals better than most of the girls in the game....Don't know if I am a proud Beyoncé fan or an ashamed fan of...Well, anyone else.
Ever since Lady Gaga's rise to fame in 2008, and even after her comments during TMB, a lot of stans have viewed lip-syncing in a totally different way.
During the times of Michael Jackson and even up to Britney's global reign, performances were viewed for their cinematography and choreography all leading into the overall performance. Vocals weren't the priority and even though lip-syncing has always been viewed as sub-par in some form to the general public, it wasn't taken seriously in the stan world.
Gaga comes in and denounces lip-syncing, claiming that she'll never lip-sync (playback is not considered the same thing) and since then, certain stan groups have thought any performance that lacks live vocals is automatically sub-par, despite rave reviews.
Now this isn't EVERYBODY and I'm not calling out the Little Monsters because they all don't have the same view, but here's the question.
Michael Jackson has literally lip-synced 97%, dancing or no dancing (see Motown 25) and he is considered an all-time LEGEND and even god like to some people. But is MJ sub-par because he lacked live vocals in 97% of his performances post-Thriller?

This is kind of fake, basically you're saying that before everyone lip-syncs and that was the way the industry worked, and that its not true, vocals were important just as today, Go and ask Mariah Carey , Elton John, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, U2, any rock band and the 80% of the industry if they lip-synced . . . . actually before existed more musical quality in everything aspect than today.
The only ones that Lip-synced were Michael, Madonna, Janet and Britney because of the "Choreographies", and never was a good or normal thing, for almost a decade Madonna was critized for it, actually there was a time where the Lip-sync term was called "The Madonna mimic", the critics were so severe that she had to gave up on lip-syncing and staring singing live..... and since I remember Briteny's career main criticism has been always Lip-syncing (Before and now)
Lady Gaga didn't change anything .... Lip-syncing has always been perceived as a bad thing in music industry just as the wat it is right now.
I approve of lip-synching only under the condition that the choreography is HEAVY and/or it's a huge event like the Superbowl. There's really no room for error at an event like that. And I hate when the artist tries to conceal it. It looks worse. I'd rather them just own it and focus on the performance.
If you're lip-syncing and all your ass is doing is walking back & forth across the stage, it's a problem.
Yes. And that is why people have a problem with it these days. Most of our popstars don't engage in massive choreo numbers and do nothing but walk back and forth.
And I hate this "if someone sounds bad but doesn't lip sync, they deserve credit." WTF, no. If you're a famous singer, you should be able to sing. Simple as that. If you sound like ****, IDC if you sing live. You shouldn't be up on stage.
Now THAT'S what everyone should do... you record your songs in the studio for God sakes! SING them live as well... it shouldn't be a problem... it may not be as strong, but it will be real...
They're recording artists. No one can force them to sing live if they don't want to. They’re saving their voices.
