Uh, her album sales is fine.
I don't want Taylor to join the likes of Carole King or Alanis Morisette. They're great, but after one HIT album people walked away from them. BB Hot 100 will only get the bandwagon-ers attention, different with Top 200 tho.

Btw y'all, I just had a crazy thought if she'll adapt more sounds from the 50's/60's era and it's not impossible that she'll also sound more like Johnny Cash with this 4th album. Cause from the blog I read yesterday, besides it imitated John Mayer's "Graffiti", it also heavily sampled Macca's (Paul McCartney) song post-Beatles. Thoughts?

Intentionally reviving older styles seems to be popular these days...

Gaga went for 80s pop/dance with Born This Way
Beyonce was partially inspired by 70s R&B on 4

Taylor bringing back the 60s would be following the trend, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Going for a "60s type" sound could be beneficial; 4 is Beyonce's best critically recieved album, and Born This Way was mostly well received by critics as well.


It's interesting how Gaga, Beyonce and Taylor all seem to present themselves as "timeless artists" by emulating past sounds and artists; it's actually something I noticed awhile back.

I don't know much about Gaga & Bey. But Taylor is like a step ahead in her own way, I just realized this after that blog pointed out she actually sampled Macca, not Mayer. Surprising for me because 1) She admitted that she's more into Beach Boys, 2) the whole review talked about how it sounded like a Mayer song. Taylor digs deeper (not just the classics apparently, alternative music too) than I've thought before, glad that she proved me wrong once again.

Like Triggerman said, Taylor Swift must LEAD, not follow. She can shift the music landscape entirely in the future if she stays in this track. Few steps away, Taylor. Hold on to it.

I actually don't mind her doing a more 60's sound. And she totally fits the look in that era. Although I just did a google search and I actually rather see her style in more 50's era.

I don't think a person just gets to say "now they're my favorite artist."

You don't have to choose, just wait and with time it may become clear to you. If that doesn't work for you, consider a tie... A person can have more than 1 best friend, and a person can have more than 1 favorite artist.

Personally, Taylor has always outranked Gaga on my favorite artists scale.
