- The story this weekend is not that Robin Williams' latest attempt to score big hit #1, but rather that it doesn't seem like the US public is quite ready for a movie about 9/11, as the gymnastics-themed 'Stick It' (which many pegged to bomb this weekend) outgrossed 'United 93' on the first day of the weekend.
It's not all bad news though. U93 is only in 1700 theatres, will generate the best PTA in the top 10, and is garnering great reviews and solid word of mouth. This one could definitely be a grower.

WTF? Stick It should NOT be that high.
Go SM4
My estimates for this weekend:
1 RV
2 United 93
3 Silent Hill
4 Scary Movie 4
5 Stick It
6 Akeelah and the Bee
7 The Sentinel
8 Ice Age: The Meltdown
9 The Wild
10 The Benchwarmers
11 American Dreamz
12 Friends With Money
There you go.

I saw Scary Movie 4.
It was just the stupid fun I wanted. It really pushed the FCC borders for being PG13. Good for them.

I've seen "Stick It." Last night, I went with a group of 14 (4 guys, 10 girls), so we got outvoted!!! uh, I wanted "Silent Hill," but yeah, anyways, the movie was quite good actually, not the best, but from a girl's POV (which I saw up close yesterday), it had some good points and funny moments. I'd say around a 3.5/5.

No. No it wasn't good at all. AT ALL. I'd give it a 0.5/5, and I'm being kind.

Besides the mentioning that "it's too soon to be released"; I have yet to hear anything negative about Flight 93. But I'll be catching this one on DVD, I don't want to sit in a theater watching this.
I just got back from The World's Fastest Indian. - (The one with Anthony Hopkins and the streamline racer) That one was rather cool.
I'll be catching American Dreamz on Thursday.

i can respect your opinion, but it probably is due to the fact that you aren't a fan of the games and didn't understand/comprehend the movie the way that most horror fans/video gamers do. this was definitely the best video game to movie adaptation ever made (which doesn't say much), and all my friends who i saw it loved it, so i was happy.
go see american dreamz and be happy.

I think Bart meant "Stick It," not "Silent Hill?"

No problem...Kris? Anyways, looks as if "United 93" barely edged out "Stick It": $11,605,000 vs. $11,255,000...hmm...I thought RV was destined to bomb, but it seems to have grossed $16,400,000 last weekend. JoJo is the only positive aspect of that movie and Robin Williams is just plain annoying. Wasn't there a couple movies similar to this last year or the year before...something like "Johnson Family Vaction" and "Are We There Yet?" This type of movie is starting to get a bit cliche and boring.

I'm SO happy that RV is #1 just because of the sheer fact that JoJo is in it. I wanna see that and Stick It this weekend ... and i think the problem with United 93 is that it didnt have a much promotional push cos i've only seen like 5 commercials for it.

I saw United 93 last night, and it was amazing.
And it's incredible how everything is silent in the theatre when it ends.
It' an experience, if anything.

hmm...there was actually no promotion wutsoever for United 93 and I knew nothing of it until I saw this thread. Perhaps that is the reason...maybe this movie will pick up in up and coming weeks and become HUGE?

I think Flight 93 has had a fair share of PR. It's gotten numerous mainstream news spotlights, and mentions on the internet.
Theater was silent? Wow.
