I never thought of that! And that sort of connects to when she said "This era will test my fans" and "I dont care about #1 singles"

How would she even perform HML live though? It's definitely one of, if not THE best song on the album, but I can see it flopping so easily.

I feel like I'm the only one who remembers her saying those things

She explicitly said in one interview, she hates when her fans sit on the internet staring at chart positions all day and would be trying to break them of that habit. So like...

I've said it before but speaking about here in the US, I can really only see Hair having the potential to be a hit here. I mean I love **** but I can really only see it as a European single. HML, while I like it, I don't see it smashing anywhere.

I'm sure she would love to have #1 singles, but if that was the focus, she'd be going about it the way she did in the past.

She could use one of those auto tune mics, but then people would be like "FAKE BITCH CAN'T SING AND HAS TO USE AUTOTUNE."

I commend her for that, but any way you slice it, she's still a popstar. She's by no means flopping but finding a middle ground would just make it so much more impressive. Releasing BTW -> something public wants -> something Gaga wants -> something public wants -> repeat would keep enough interest in the era for fans and the public alike. She's got great material this era, it just needs to be handled better.

It's been handled fine. To put it into perspective, Katy's TD era has been handled impeccably, yet her entire tour didn't even gross as much as 45 shows of TMB and BTW has already outsold TD. Rihanna's LOUD era was handled quite nicely and TTT didn't even debut at #1. This era, while it has had some bumps, has been handled nicely. We just need to accept that the music isn't what the public eats up. This is pure dance music, not bubblegum pop.

I have faith that the next album will be something a little more commercial since she got BTW out of her system.

So she's purposely putting out songs that will underperform to break us from our habits.

Judas doing badly put a kink in the momentum but rushing TEoG, giving it that video, and then following it up with You and I with a confusing video put the nail in the coffin. You and I deserved to be a single, just not then (last single of the era would have been preferable). They really needed MTN, Sheisse, or even Hair instead to give the general public a taste of what they want from Gaga. Now she's gonna have to work for that momentum, which is going to be tricky given what's left on the album. If MTN can just keep getting positive radio updates, I'm confident the era will be back on track in no time.

Definitely. I think she knows that right now she can do basically whatever she wants and still do pretty well either way, so she's learning as much of what she can and can't do. What she learns from the BTW era will make her future eras stronger for sure.
