She deserved it. What do you expect when she allows her creative director to say things like "We copied Madonna because we wanted to show we could!"
But now Madonna has to ****ing DELIVER. She's been built up as the incomparable queen that the "copycat tranny" wants to be. After nearly 4 years of hearing what a pop genius Madonna is, her next album better be ****ing pop GOLD. A cute little cheerleader song ain't gonna do it.

Marry the Night will go Top 10, but it is totally uninteresting and boring until the last minute when the pace of the song changes drastically. Her performance at EMA's certainly didn't make me think it was any more exciting, as she lazily sang the chorus. I also dislike how the song is mixed on the album. The vocals sound muffled under the production.
That being said, I have done my part in requesting in NYC.
Still confused as to why they're sitting on the biggest smash of the album (Scheisse), though. It will be a huge dance hit (not that she has trouble getting those), but the faux-German part will slay and be really memorable, IMO.

The effect on her vocals is definitely done on purpose. When I first heard the song, I thought I was listening to a ****** rip, but then I realized they actually distorted her voice. It's almost lo-fi.
