I agree, the pop industry requires it.
However, if she had sacrificed her commercial success to put out a really, really amazing album, I'd definitely be here for it. It's not BTW's case, in my opinion, though

I think that discussing about charts and how much radio is playing or not playing MTN is incredibly boring, even though I know it is important... I personally prefer discussing about music, videos and stuff.

Britney and Beyonce are completely irrelevant in the type of battle that Gaga is fighting now. They are older and have their discography and everyone knows them and no one cares about them musically anymore. Adele is also irrelevant. She's the big thing right now, and she'll pass quickly enough (though I'm sure she'll still have success).
BUT, there is something alarming about the fact that Katy Perry and Rihanna are reaching the point where they're able to take the spotlight when it comes to music video and single releases. Sure, Rihanna can't do what Gaga does. But, she can release an album every year that sells and has hit singles. It doesn't matter if people like Gaga or not. It never has. What always mattered is that people felt SOMETHING about what she was releasing. The scary thing is that people are starting to not care. There is just no response, and if it is, it's along the lines of "oh" instead of "OMGOMG I HATE THIS BITCH SO MUCH."
How is she supposed to tackle that problem? I don't know the answer.

Because Rihanna has done nothing but the music, Gaga made statements and changed almost everything about mainstream music for pop artists

Katy and Rihanna are just sooooo catered to having extremely successful hits. When making Born This Way, I really don't think that's what Gaga was concerned with - however it still managed to work really well. Her album sales are incredible, and Katy & Rihanna's just can't compare with what she has accomplished in a mere 6 months.

Agreed. I don't think Gaga's intention was to release a hugely commercial pop album to get 5 #1 hits. She wanted to release the type of music she loves to write and what she thinks her fans will love.

Also what Gaga has accomplished in 6 months is unheard of

However, since Adele is outselling everyone, Gaga's flopping and doing horribly. There's no logic behind this "she's not doing as well," "she's losing popularity," etc.
Yes, she's not as popular in the US as she was last era, and you can contribute that to the likes of Katy and Rihanna catering and giving everyone what they want while Gaga distances herself from the commercial sound. WW, Gaga is still the biggest, most popular, and most successful current pop artist. I mean, you have every major outlet and event wanting Gaga. MTV, ABC, the Tawainese gov't, Sydney Town Hall, One of India's biggest events, Japan, MTV EMAs, and The Grammys all want Gaga.
Only, and I mean ONLY, Gaga fans would complain about an artist's current success after they've sold a year's worth of albums in five months.

I prefer the music on Born This Way to anything else she has released (though I've been moving back towards The Fame Monster, lately). That's not the problem I'm talking about now, though. It's even more fundamental, which is interesting since she's a musician.

I totally understand your concern, but what you must realize/take into account is that the people who are "excited" about Rihanna and Katy's **** are not stans/fans, but the general public, and the general public will watch the video and move on. Gaga's got the hardcore fanbase and she will always have that advantage. Gaga's at a rare point in her career right now where she's able to take risks, and that's what she's doing because it's what she wants to do. Gaga, right now, is not interested in doing what the other girls are doing, if that makes sense. People care about Gaga. She's still the "it" girl and she is still the girl everyone looks to when they need a popstar. To the general public, Rihanna and Katy are just popstars, while Gaga's the one the media, critics, and other people take seriously.

Lady Gaga just isn't the type of artist that is going to go out of her way to guarantee a #1 hit. She's going to do whatever the **** she wants to do, and it will work, as Born This Way has proven.

Great post
At the end of the day, people may be 'bored' of Gaga, but they're much more likely to discuss her arriving in an egg or dressing up as a man than Katy Perry wearing a block of cheese... The VMAs proved that if Gaga wants to steal the show, she can. Pregnant Beyonce aside...

Lady Gaga's china cup need
Lady Gaga has bone china cups and a chaise lounge ready for her backstage at the MTV Europe Music Awards, which are set to take place on Sunday.
Lady Gaga has bone china cups as part of her rider for the MTV Europe Music Awards.
The 'Born This Way' hitmaker will be performing at the awards - hosted by Selena Gomez - in the Northern Irish city of Belfast on Sunday (06.11.11), and as soon as she arrived she sent her personal assistant out to department store John Lewis to get some important items backstage.
A source told BANG Showbiz: 'On landing, her PA headed straight for the store to pick out a grey and silver pied-a-terre chaise lounge, 2 n'espresso coffee machines and some 'shabby chic' fine bone china cups and saucers and a cake-plate - sounds like one lovely dressing room!'
Lady Gaga - who is renowned for her eccentric dress sense, once wearing an outfit made entirely from meat - will perform alongside stars including Bruno Mars, Coldplay and Jessie J at the eagerly anticipated show at Belfast's City Hall, broadcast from 9pm on MTV.
In addition to performing, Gaga is also nominated for six awards, one more than she was up for at the 2010 awards which took place in the Spanish capital, Madrid.

I understand you. You're talking about the overall hype, right? The feeling that people don't care anymore, and I get that because I do feel that at times. However, time and time again, I see her fans and people constantly ******** themselves over Gaga and I'm quickly reminded that Gaga is still the HBIC despite her lack of single success.

I think a lot of people are worried because of the singles this era and their lack of "massive success," even though BTW is one of her highest-selling singles and TEOG is one of her biggest hits. Because of Katy and Adele and Rihanna, people are freaking out because they see these girls acquire #1 singles so effortlessly. However, no one seems to take into account that #1 singles these days mean nothing if you can't push albums. Madonna hasn't touched the #1 spot in 11 years and even the biggest of superstars didn't always snatch #1 after #1 during their careers.
I love having these convos with Gaga fans who don't take everything so personally/seriously.
