Discussion: Rihanna and Katy, the future of pop?

I can't at people pretending that Lady Gaga isn't put up there with Beyoncé and Britney. The same people who say she is part of the trinity when it suits them now trying to shade her. Britney, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga are a league above Rihanna and Katy Perry. People just have more respect for her and that is just the way it is. If anything Gaga has more respect than Britney.
You don't have to like it but that is how it goes. People talk about Beyoncé, Britney and Gaga. Then Katy, Rihanna and Ke$ha.

Their music is fun, but if they're the future of pop, then pop has been goddamned. I don't like Britney but when she was the future of pop, she at least captivated people with her performances and (this is re. Katy only) put out albums with semi-decent reviews.

Rihanna and Katy are what's "cool" at the moment. When listening to talentless ****s stops being cool, they will both fade away, fast.

I actually think Rihanna has one of the most beautiful and unique voices of the time and that makes her talented. I find Katy very replaceable.

100,000 000 cds sold vs 20,000 000 cds
Gaga can collaborate with the pope If she wants but will never reach the Briney level.

100,000,000 CDs sold?
There's no point arguing with you, your signature is so telling.

You can't ignore the biggest superstar worldwide currently, that being Lady Gaga.
And Katy is hardly at the top of her game, check out that lovely TOTGA performance on X Factor. The song didn't even make Top 15 on iTunes in that country after that huge promo. (UK)
Rihanna is a big star, but she's been around for years. She's the present, not the future.

I see. Rihanna has been "cool" for the last 4 years. I guess I have to hand it to her for being a talentless ****.

Not that there's anything wrong with Rihanna or Katy, but if they represent the future of pop, then pop has really taken many many steps back.

I hate to have to defend Katy because I'm not a HUGE fan and I think she has a lot to work on for people to fully appreciate her as an artist and not a generic pop tart (but I do like a lot of her songs), but...
Yes, she makes childish music, but that same music is crossing over to Hot AC/AC stations successfully. She is slowly being accepted by older audiences in the way that GaGa, Rihanna, Britney and a few other mainstream pop stars aren't without having to do much.
