Pop diva Kelly Clarkson tells TOI in an interview that youngsters must push the envelope to stay ahead.
This multi-platinum selling, Grammy-winning singer, who is described as sexy, sassy and soulful, all in one breath, made headlines by winning the American Idol title in its inaugural season more than a decade ago. Now she's back in the spotlight, with more songs under her belt and an album that releases shortly. Pop princess Kelly Clarkson is, however, happiest about the fact that she was able to add some unusual touches to her work this time and has tried out something very different from what she has done before.
"My new songs are empowering and anthemic in nature, like ballads," she says. "
I have done one duet with an American Idol singer, but I won't share the name as the surprise would be over! The work is vocally different and does not sound auto-tuned."
When asked how involved she usually is in the song-writing process, Kelly says, "I have written half the album this time around. I also did a lot of great songs from other writers and they really seem to home in on my personality. On my off days, I like to write."
When she is not in the spotlight, Kelly is your regular girl next door. "I am really normal," she says, adding, "It can't get more basic than that. As for the stuff I enjoy - I like watching audition shows whenever possible and I show up at random karaoke bars to sing with fans on my tours, too."
Ask her about the experience of winning the first season of American Idol and she says it was a life-changing moment. "It was amazing and the biggest thing that has ever happened to me," she says, "I learned to be a little more confident and to adapt to the multiple personalities that I have. I love singing different genres of music and I'm going to be the annoying girl that shows up in every genre."
Her personal new favourite is her song called You Love Me, which features in her new album. "It sounds happy, but I have put a dark twist to it. I wrote it in 15 minutes. It's good when a song flows from me that fast. But the one thing I don't like in the music industry today is the problem of piracy. My first single leaked online and it ruined the surprise completely."
Her advice to young people is simple. "It's very important to be grounded," she says, "Working hard with determination is extremely important too. Don't forget to push the envelope all the time." For Kelly, it's the only way to stay ahead of the game.

American Idol singer ?? You would think that it's not a judge but a previous contestant. Cause kara isn't a "american idol singer" but a "american idol judge". I might be reading to much into this. I might be wrong since kelly's banmate did say that it was kara and then deleted his tweet.
