Basically by giving an digital retailer the exclusives to it first, all they have to do is send in the files a few hours before the release date, and by the time a leaker gets their hands on a physical copy, it's already out to the public.
And in this case they recorded everything by themselves in hotels throughout the world, and not in the typical studio environment, meaning they and the few producers they worked with were the only one's holding the files. They recorded everything together also, they didn't do the whole "record a verse, send back to me, I record, send back to you" thing and recorded the whole thing together in the same room, eliminating the possibility of the songs getting into other people's hands online.
