I don't think Madonna is really her idol, though. I do think she loves Madonna and spent a lot of time studying Madonna, but her music and her image takes in a lot more than Madonna. I always think it's sort of been annoying how fiercely everyone has compared her to Madonna, especially since she actually seems to like and take just as much (and increasingly, more) from rock stars of the past than from Madonna.

But I was watching some show on E or reading some interview and they used that line in defense of Gaga 'copying' Madonna, saying that Madonna is clearly her idol so it's obvious she will pay homage to her. I wasn't serious with my post, but referencing that.

Madonna is the most superficial and obvious comparison. People are inevitably going to go that route. A whole lot of people don't even know who David Bowie or Grace Jones are or would bother taking the time to look in to what other more obscure influences (of which there are many) Gaga's drawn from.
