"Hollaback Girl" was probably viewed as pop song by most, but it received a lot of urban success, too. It peaked at #9 on the R&B charts and I think somewhere in the top 5 on Urban. That was a rare occurrence. So, I can see why it sold so much and even beat "We Belong Together," which is really an R&B song that crossed over successfully.   |

WBT spent more weeks at #1 on POP radio than HG and more than anyone this year. So I don't think that song got huge only because of Rhythmic support. It's a well deserved #1 song.   |

This doesn't mean it was not a huge hit. I'm just trying to say that the airplay numbers from 2003 till 2008 were not accurate. If the charts were like in the UK, We Belong Together would have been a no2 hit for only one week. Here you can see the digital sales every week. This is the week MiMi peaked. http://www.billboard.com/#/charts/di...ate=2005-06-04
I'm glad the radio industry changed. It was not fair at all.  |

I'm glad the radio industry changed. It was not fair at all. | You're probably right. I guess radio airplay had too much weight those years but the Hot 100 would be hell of boring if we only count sales, no longevity, lots of songs with undeserved #1... a mess. One thing we could guarantee those years is that #1 hits were known by everyone because of radio.
I guess if WBT was released today, it would have a similar chartrun to WMN?  |

DEAD @ the large lead Mariah had over the others, including Gwen. Ki.
Will Mariah ever experience something like that again? I doubt it, but that's cool, too. She proved that she wasn't completely over.  |

"Emancipation" was one of the most significant comeback eras in recent memory. She got the #1 song of the decade, for cryin out loud.  |

Actually, I was just expressing my awe at how Katy's yet-to-be released single is doing so well already.  |
