Song-wise, I think it wont get better then BR in my opinion. Album-wise? I think this album will be a step up. Even if a song on BTW isnt as huge and iconic as BR was, the album as a whole will be better

Over-hype of the Telephone video, even though the song wasn't that good.
Then further going down hill with Alejandro - same as above, although it was catchy / had a meaning.
Two major bad choices in a row.
Born This Way - successful b/c of the 8 month hype and the gay / be yourself association meaning.
Video was deep and meaningful. To the plain eye, it made no common sense.

Well, I've been feeling this way ever since the Telephone era.
She's putting too much focus on her persona and not enough on her music. When you spend every waking minute trying to shock and provoke people with meat dresses and egg vessels and whatnot, you better make damn sure your music is 100% on point to back all that up. The attention whoring only works to elevate you beyond mere singer IF the music is truly there. The single Born This Way is merely OK, but when you've set yourself up as Lady Gaga, music/fashion/social media/attention *****/pop culture icon, "OK" doesn't cut it.

In a way it's normal - her debut was too massive (it really only happens once every few generations) to live up to.
Plus she's made some poor choices.

It's too early to say BR is the peak of her entire career. It's been her peak up to this point, but we really don't know what the rest of the era has in store.
The only thing I probably would have done differently after was not release Telephone as a single (although even then I understand why they did).

Very good points. I agree. I wish she'd focus more on the music. People love her music
But didnt you say, you love the "persona" and thats what attracted to to stan for her?

In retrospect, the hyping of the Telephone video was probably what redeemed it as a single, actually -- because the hype worked. It shot up to #3 after struggling to break in to the Top 10 and the video garnered a massive amount of views. It was generally well received, too.

Why mention the song? She over-hyped the video, not the song. The video was fine.

Um, what the hell? Not at all. I feel like this is said a thousand times, 6 weeks at #1 can't be on hype alone.

That's debatable, but still, wasn't a bad decision. There was no major backlash to the video.

Her only major mistake for me.

I agree with you. But we should wait until we hear the entire album until you make your decision. A lot of people said that BTW wasn't representative of this album.
If the album is really what the snippets are letting us guess, she hasn't peaked. I just hope her MV come back to the right track, because that's something that made her so successful in the beginning.

Weren't you one of the only people that liked Born This Way from the very beginning? I think Born This Way is great. Maybe if I didn't understand its influences (80's gay disco) and if it didn't have the meaning it does behind it, I would enjoy it less. But to me the vocals, the lyrics, and the instrumental are all fabulous.

joestre8 - yes, I love the persona more than the music, but I'm not talking about me. I'm talking about her career peak which has nothing to do with what I think.
cshumate - yes, I did like Born This Way from the beginning. It's OK. People want her to fail so they trash her work more than it deserves.
Fadicuss - yes, I should wait to hear the album, but I'm a bit of a naysayer and assume she'll keep making questionable choices.
iLays - I know you're lurking, get on with it already

Does anyone not even care what she dresses like at this point? I mean, she's been dressing like an odd ball for years now, that it's gotten to the point where I'm just like "Oh Gaga" and move the **** on.

I don't think the Telephone hyping MV was such a bad decision tbh. It was great and well received by most of the people. I do think it's one of her best yet. Yes it was long, but it was easy to watch. It was funny, there was a story going on and we laughed. It was also very colorful. Alejandro and BTW MV on the other hand were very heavy with many dull parts.
Also, to respond to another post, releasing Alejandro as a single was not a bad decision. Many people that don't like Gaga's music overall love this track. It gathered other type of people.

She mentioned this herself in the Google Interview.
Her casual wear used to be 'shocking' - now she has to go the extra mile for the same reaction.

The numbers dont lie,
despite what you guys are trying to prove, she has not reached her peak...
Born this way ****'s on everything she has done up to date. Is it your cup of tea?!? Maybe not, but the world(most) seems to disagree(numbers). Because she isn't "pleasing" you it means she has reached her peak!? Umm no, this isn't the "retired old faves" thread get those delusions out of here.
The receipts only show Gaga going up and up ++ Don't really understand the peak,
