You can't compare Beyonce's albums because all 3 are sooooo different from each other which is a GREAT thing
Beyonce has grown with each album as an Artist , Vocally, Writer just overall growth

Do you know what contrived means? To me, it felt a little forced and unnatural. She sounded much more comfortable on the ballads on DIL and even B'Day imo.
I knew that would piss some people off. Sorry if you don't agree with me, I'm an honest stan.

LOL I disagree, but there's no straight up answer to this anyhow. It's all opinions really. IMO her staccato phrasing is her signature "fierce" sound. Solo and with DC. I always thought B'Day exemplified all that perfectly.

The problem, for me, lies within the I Am side. It almost seemed like Bey was trying to say "Hey everybody, look at me! Look how serious and deep I can be!" It almost felt a little contrived. The two exceptions were If I Were a Boy and That's Why You're Beautiful, which were imo her best ballads to date.
|
Well for those who don't know Beyonce or her previous albums MAY think that. But all the songs she puts on there resonate with her in some way. So by no means would I call any songs on there contrived. If you're interested, Bey talked about Broken-Hearted Girl before and why she put it on the album:
Quote:
TOM: Tell us about the song ‘Broken Hearted Girl’?
Beyonce: I always try to have songs on my albums that are all the things that women want to say, but maybe can't articulate, or are too afraid to say. That is what I want to sing about. That is what attracts me to a beat or a song. Actually Babyface wrote ‘Broken Hearted Girl’, and the second I heard it, I said this is exactly how every woman feels. Even if you have been a broken hearted girl, or if you are happy and don't want to be a broken hearted girl, this is how every woman feels. Everyone interprets it differently. I do not ever want to be the girl that cannot be in a great relationship because they have had their heart broken so many times. If you really listen carefully the third verse is realizing that I do not have to be, and I can trust, and I won't be a broken hearted girl. You can absolutely choose to be happy, and I make that choice in the record. And I encourage every other woman to make that choice.

Not here for Rolling Stone opinions on ballads at all, especially since they probably think Single Ladies is better than Deja Vu.

I Don't Feel anything on The I Am Side Was Contrived. Considering She had just got married during the time of the recording, I feel that the side more than any of her other albums was a COMPLETE reflection of how she felt and where she was at that point in her life. In Love and filled with emotion for her husband, hence the reason Ave Maria made the album.
P.S. I don't Know why people have so much Beef W/ DIL That album will forever and always be the ****. Minus That's How you like it and Hip Hop Star you can really listen to the whole thing w/o skipping a track. That album resonated with so many people because it was honest and real and **** that people go through everyday. In relationships, you have the times when you're deeply in love with the person, that you're willing to do anything (The Title Track), The times when you feel that his ass is Ungrateful and unappreciative ("Yes"), The times where you can't stand his trifling ass and you want to chop his dick off ("Me, Myself, And I"). She Has the songs the for the first time she wants him to knock her ***** out the frame ("Speechless", "Be With You"), The Songs when you first meet and you have butterflies for his ass ("Crazy In Love", "Baby Boy", "Naughty Girl"), Even the songs about the little things that are important and make your love for him special ("Gift From Virgo"). That Album is an ICONIC LANDMARK IN MUSIC And STILL ***** ON 99.9% of the albums out right now.

Do you feel me? I love DIL but the way people hype it up to be her best album disgusts me.

YAS! I loved "Yes" and "Gift from Virgo" especially. Not just because of the messages behind those songs (That LINE: You showed me your true face baby, the first time I said no), but her freaking musicianship. The way she arranged Gift From Virgo's vocals over the original track made it seem they just belonged there.
