Raining Men ft Nicki Minaj . Not that I don't like it, but not lead single material... They needed some urban support after the "flop" Rated R was. Obviously, if you come from a bad era, your single won't be so hyped or played so much on radio at first (unlike Born This Way- won't have as much longevity as OG tho), so even a little support from urban would be good for Rihanna. Those are the first two songs she let people listen to.
Raining Men I knew it. Def Jam was just trying to hop on the Nicki train and create buzz for a Rihanna/Nicki track. thank God they didnt. Only Girl was the most fitting song on the album to kick off the era. No other song on the album could do it

but why r u guyz calling Rated R a flop, first of all it was a dark album, so it wasnt comercially appealing and catchy, but it managed to sell 3 millions WW..... so i wouldnt call it a flop, but not as succesful as her previous efforts, it spawned three consecutive top tens, and rude boy was #1 for 5 consecutive weeks...
They are mentally challenged, so I wouldn't put it past them.

Oh and Guys I had this weird dream that Rihanna named her 6th album "Frihdom" a play on the word Freedom but it had to deal with her freeing her inhabitions and it was all about releasing music that we could lose ourselves in and be free. It was dancey upbeat and happy ballads. It's just a thought. Although I wouldnt mind Rihanna making an album in that vein.

lol i thought thats what It implied. But yes, a second single would have been out by then. But you have to admit that "Only Girl" helped it ALOT. "WMN" was also a big helper. But if she would have did "Raining Men", then "WMN?" i'm sure she wouldn't have gotten that 200+k albums first week.
