Suicide rates are higher because there's not a taboo associated with it to the extent that there once was. People are not as religious as they used to be, in the past people were under the impression that if you killed yourself you would go to hell/purgatory, they don't even factor that anymore. It's more accepted as part of life than it was in the past, and yes, that is because of more liberal views.

hmm maybe that was a better thing. People here always trash religion, but at least it was strong enough to save lives in the past.

Religion causes as many problems as it solves IMO. I have no problem with it, I respect those who have have strong beliefs. I just don't like it when they're forced upon others.

No, I wouldn't say religion saved lives. If anything, it has (now and in the past) made people feel worse about who they really are deep down inside. I have absolutely nothing against anybody that happens to believe in God/Jesus/the bible here, but as a former Christian, I know what religion can do to insecure people, especially homosexuals. Churches aren't very accepting or welcoming of diversity, and when I attempted to get back into a church shortly after I came out a few years ago, they all shunned me unless I let God "change my sinful homosexual ways".

Like people don't like it to feel forced, I also dislike it when strong anti-religion beliefs are forced.
