Confessions of a Shopaholic - 7/10
If you know how to use your eyes is a good film which critics the rampant consumerism of capitalist society, talking like a heavy thing, but the movie brings reflection in a cheerful and humorous! Super Hollywood, but really liked it! A movie really interesting to see while the world is undergoing a financial crisis. A movie that besides being very funny, makes us think a little about the real value of things, consumer goods considered, perhaps, futile... and rethink this a bit absurd consumerism and publicist who are bombing targets daily.
House Of Wax - 7/10
Seriously, I don’t figure out the so much hate for this movie! People exaggerate only for Paris’ presence at the cast, yes she’s dumb and we’re saying that performing it’s not her best, but on this movie she interpreted well the character, and you wanna know why? Coz she interprets a tipic teenager of those horror movies, pretty, nasty and stupid, so it wasn’t that hard for her. What I love most on this movie is that it takes so long to start the killings, that is, it takes a while to get used to the characters, but they can at least to me, create a connection with the audience (Elisha Cuthbert, Chad Michael Murray and Jared Padalecki). The House Of Wax also contains violence, blood, and a little of suspense, the set is really scary, the abandoned village and the people’s wax are really realistic, and the museum done only of wax it’s amazing, the death scene of Page and Wade "waxed" and only the eyes moving and other scenes deserve credit because it proves that it isn’t just a "teen movie" and the two brothers (bad guys) are cruel and a bit scary! Finally, I believe the movie is not Oscar worthy, but is more worthy of terror, and is certainly watchable! My fave movie ever!
Sorority Row - 7/10
This movie has enough frights & thrills to make you jump multiple times, but it's not just that that makes the movie for me. What makes this film different from all of the recent mediocre horror films is that it is very much character and dialogue driven. The characters become as compelling as the plot itself and you actually find yourself starting to care about these characters. The dialogue shoots back and forth between the characters and further builds up the suspense until the final revelation. The suspense is very well drawn-out - it doesn't reveal the killer too early and it doesn't make you impatient for the end. The resulting finale is a big bang and not disappointing at all. The acting was also a cut above the rest - I didn't cringe at the lame screams or badly-acted terrified facial expressions because there weren't any. Kudos to all the girls because they gave performances beyond what I expected would be given. This movie doesn't deserve any awards, because it doesn't want any. Thinking about this movie is useless; if you want a movie that makes you think then go catch Inglorious Basterds. This film is meant to entertain, and entertain it did. It's what most horror films today should be. This movie has set a standard which all subsequent horror films (especially teen horrors) should follow. Just let yourself be drawn in instead of attempting to guess who the killer is and ruining the experience for yourself. If you just go in with a blank mind and just leave all you doubts at the door you will enjoy it as it is and not blame it for being what it's not afterwards.
Mean Girls – 8/10
It might seems one more teen movie at a school, but the idea of the movie goes furthermore. Mean Girls can portrays very well what really happens in the girl’s universe in that turbulent epoch which is adolescence, with ingredients such as: deceit, jealousy, boyfriend and fight for popularity. It also discusses the personality change that many have to fit through and be accepted by a particular group. A great movie for all ages and funny enough a good moral in the mix of it all.
Greta – 8/10
This movie really gives a wide range of different thoughts, feelings, actions and things you might bump into in life. With excellent acting, brilliant filming and music that calms your mind, it's a home run. Hilary Duff goes beyond any movie you have ever seen her in, and delivers a performance worthy an Acadamy award, and with help from fantastic actors such as Evan Ross, Micheal Murphy, Melissa Leo and the always wonderful Ellen Burstyn, there is no doubt this movie is going to become dear to many people. This movie suits for everybody who has ever been young and confused, and offers a lot for the audience. Everyone will find something they like about this movie, or else they just won't admit it. Get yourself some fuel for thought, and watch this movie, you won't regret it.
When a Stranger Calls – 7/10
This movie was a great movie and was far better than the original. In this movie they stretched out the opening scene of the original. There are more characters which makes it more interesting. This movie has more chase scenes in it, unlike the original which basically had one. The set is also a lot more likable. Jill's acting in this one isn't superb, but it's pretty good, and also it seems like she actually cares about the children in this one. The stranger's voice isn't half as scary as the original which is the only downfall. But, you don't see the stranger's face until the end, so it makes him even more scary. Over all I recommend this movie and would give it a solid B.
Sexy Killer – 7/10
It was one of the few made me laugh out loud. The movie wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, the references to horror movies until the titanic is hilarious. The dialogues are completely stupid and smart at the same time, and not even know it was possible. And the story of zombies was just the icing on the cake. Blame this synopsis. And the protagonist is too much, her charisma is absurd, impossible not to root for her. Incredible movie.
Zombieland – 8/10
You’re trying know if the movie is good or not, don’t let that title influence your will, or even a tool pin-up without fun. Coz the movie is superb, really good. Diversion guaranteed. Sensational. In a manner of speaking, it’s a amazing attempt of put up two genres opposites on one. And it works, Perfect combination. It might not be the best, but it carries out what it promised: to entertain. Besides that, it’s the best kind of comedy, subtle, and it requires engagement of the bystander. Once you tune on the movie, agrees to be taken by non-sensise, you have a nice (literally, in the scenes superslow) and fun trip. And the technical part of the movie is impeccable, worthing each pixel of each frame.
She’s The Man – 7/10
Amanda Bynes proves to be a star again... the movie was hilarious. I laughed right from the first scene to the last. No other teen movie so far has been so funny and so lovable. The movie is based on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. It's about Viola (Amanda) whose soccer dreams are shattered when her school cuts the girl's team. Since the coach refuses to try the boy's team she takes revenge of them by disguising herself as Sebastian (her twin brother) and goes to his school(Illyria) while her brother goes to London for his Music. Amanda mets Duke (Channing Tatum) in the new school and he is in love with Olivia (Laura) who falls in love with Sebastian (Amanda) who loves Duke......The story revolves around Amanda's ambition to beat her old school soccer team. Her day to day experiences at new school are beautifully portrayed. Nobody could have done the character Sebastian so funny as she did. The movie is perfect for everyone... All the characters in the movie were well picked... Hats off to the director. The choice of Vinnie Jones as coach is Perfect.T hough soccer plays an important part, the movie deals with all emotions like strong friendship, true love, family, hatred, jealousy etc.. This movie is a must see for all Amanda fans.
Ten Inch Hero - 8/10
This truly is one of the most amazing movie. Superbly written and wonderfully produced. The entire cast delivers a sensational performance in this incredibly witty and charming independent film. A movie with real values and a real storyline, which is so hard to come by these days. Typical themes of everyday life love, friendship and self doubt are creatively and realistically explored. It is easy to identify with the characters, leaving you feel like a connection has been made between you and the movie, something that is refreshing in an era were films cover nothing more than war, terror and clichés. This is the sort of movie that you will want to share with all of your friends and family and watch over and over again. This is quite possibly the best movie I have ever seen!
The House On Sorority Row - 6/10
Tons of slasher movies were released but only few are still in the memory of horror fans. "House On The Sorority Row" may be one of those films that are still remembered and recurred for some slasher fun. The House On The Sorority Row delivers a great slasher experience as it's gory, suspenseful, and very well directed. The acing and fun factor are interesting as you can imagine the outcome of the movie but you're never sure about it. The best thing about the movie is the creepy atmosphere. You can say the girls are terrorized while being inside the dark, big house. This movie was the producer's first and last experience in the industry. I think these people had a good potential in the genre. This movie is buried in the slasher cementery, just behind the precursor franchises of the genre.
Mamma Mia! - 7/10
This by far was the best musical movie I've seen in years. The cast was excellent, as was the scenery and music. This movie was uplifting, humorous, romantic and energizing. The kind of movie that has you walking out with a smile on your face, and wanting to see it again. Meryl Streep and Julie Walters were phenomenal in portraying their characters. This movie had me singing and dancing in my seat and was simply a wonderful feel good kind of movie. The cast made it look as though they had great fun during the filming. Who would have known that Ms. Streep could sing too? We should have known. Her strengths and diversity as an actress are unmatchable. Pierce Brosnan and Collin Firth were convincing and inspiring in their roles. Julie Walters demonstrated her ability to portray a free spirit, with wild energy and Christine Baranski did an excellent job as well. Amanda Seyfried is a star in her own right and has an incredible singing voice. This is a movie I will purchase and watch for a long time to come.
Raise Your Voice - 7/10
I love this movie and find it inspirational. Some people may not, so why even bother watching it? You don't have to like it, but anyway, if you do, then great. This movie is unlike all those other pointless movies (Ex. Confessions of a teenage drama queen, Freaky Friday). Instead, it proves a point. If you're suffering currently, you're not alone. Just know that someone's got it worse than you and sometimes you just have to push your limits and as the movie is mainly about, raise your voice. Don't hold back because eventually, you've got to let it all out. I think Duff portrays her character's role rather well. It may contain some profanity, but I'd still advise people of all ages to watch it.
