503k is not hard to do or surpass. Beyonce or GaGa could easily do that amount in the first week with the right single and promo. Ashanti's number is not untouchable, which is why no one remembers it.

that she did but there are reasons. she was blacklisted during the "Britney" era so there was no radio support. bigger singles could always mean bigger album sales [don't quote me, Katy Perry ]. the in the zone era was too oversexed. she made such a dramatic change and she lost fans. IMO her greatest hits album had better than In The Zone even if it sold one million less. the greatest hits had no promotion and it still was a blockbuster. we know of Blackout's story and Circus is actually an increase.

i'm ready for her the next increase!

Yes, I am serious. Beyonce is already on the list for B'Day and was close to doing it with I Am...

GaGa has been a HUGE superstar. What makes you think it's impossible for them to do 500k or more in these times? It's not impossible.

Yeah the fact that Circus showed an increase is really promising; it would have been worrying if she'd kept decreasing.

Beyonce failed with I Am... Sasha Fierce. she released two singles and still failed to crack 505k. she had all the promotion she could have and still failed. she can't do it and she won't do it with this new album unless she's going to release four singles and promote on Mars.

Gaga will do at most about 400k with "Born This Way". she only did 325k from THREE DIFFERENT ALBUMS and it was released on Black Friday. this time i'm expecting around 400-450k and that's still incredible.

That's why I say they could do it, not that they will. If it were two other females to do it or challenge it, they would be Beyonce and GaGa.

So Taylor's going to have the third biggest opening week for a female artist in the US ever? Holy ****.

or fourth. her predictions are 800-900k. she could land with sales lower than 874k which is the third spot.

I call BS. (no pun intended)

Why would radio stations blacklist a multi-million selling juggernaut after two diamond albums at the height of her career? That doesn't make any sense, and it's not like she made any sort of public gaffe that would have caused her to be blacklisted.

As for losing fans--yes, that had a lot to do with her sexy image change but it was also inevitable that she was going to lose fans. Her first two albums were disposable pop confections which never age well and the initial sales impact she made couldn't possible sustain itself forever (this happens to all artists).

It's very much known Clear Channel blacklisted her because she didn't use them for promotion for the Dream Within A Dream Tour. There are petitions all over online about it.
 http://www.petitiononline.com/britcc/petition.html
I mean it doesn't make sense for her to go from having big radio hits, to all of the Britney singles failing on radio in comparison. Then for her radio success to pick up on the next album.
