So I was on the MTV Press site to see if anything new had been confirmed over there regarding the VMAs, and I looked through the nominations press release once again, and I saw this first paragraph. Pay special attention to the bolded sentence:

Do the names in that bold sentence sound familiar??? If so, then you know where I'm going: They're the first set of
performers that were SUPPOSEDLY announced by MTV!! Look at them, all are listed as performers on the first page of this thread!
I thought it was weird that some bloggers would've gotten the names of several performers so early and yet MTV didn't confirm it for days... Also, the list was TOO much like last year's to be true, and a lot of them did, in fact, have nothing to promote, so it would've been weird to see them performing...
Does this mean, then, that maybe someone misquoted this press release and put them as performers when they were just listed as nominees?? Or perhaps someone spilled the beans over there and now they're acting as if none of that was true (by not confirming anyone) so as to not ruin the surprise?? Whatever it is, just be aware that there is a strong possibility that Usher, P!nk, Katy Perry, and others do not end up performing this year at the VMAs.
We'll just have to wait and see what MTV announces as we approach the show's date...
(I apologize to anyone who didn't believe this supposed list of performers from the get-go, but it seems like a lot of people truly thought it was for real and were getting their hopes up)
