Burlesque: A Tired Pop Star Formula Flick Strikes Again
By: KAYLA WEBLEY
A young girl buys a one-way ticket to the big city to make her show business dreams come true!!! And, it stars a pop star!!! Wait. That sounds familiar...
I am so conflicted.
On the one hand...
— It stars Stanley Tucci and Kristen Bell.
— Christina Aguilera can sing.
— There looks to be a love story with Eric Dane.
On the other...
— There looks to be a (cliched) love story with Eric Dane.
— The plot = generic, generic, generic.
— And, there is cliche, after cliche, after cliche. As the New York Daily News points out, how do we know she's from a small town? The trademark heavy bangs and little makeup, of course.
— It looks scarily like another Glitter or Crossroads, aka, two of the worst movies ever made, which coincidentally also starred pop divas.
— There are lines like this, from CHER (of all people): "When you are putting on makeup it's like you're an artist, but instead of painting a canvas you're painting a face."
— It stars Christina Aguilera who is so not hot right now. In her desperate attempt at a comeback album she ripped off Lady Gaga and now this? Oiy. Might be time to sail off into the married-with-baby-I'm-already-a-millionaire-sunset.
