Granted, Thriller is by far his most treasured album, I can't help but feel like you are speaking about a subject you clearly haven't studied. Michael's biggest hits are pretty evenly dispersed between every album he released from 1979 to the early 1990s. Albums like Off the Wall, Bad and Dangerous, spawned numerous #1 and top ten songs that have easily become some of Michael's most remembered work. Music aside, Michael's flair, his style and his personal life basically epitomize popular culture from the 1980s through the mid-90s.

Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, The Beatles
Andy Warhol, Bob Marley, John Lennon, James Dean, and Jim Morrison are deserving Top 10 candidates too.

Michael Jackson is famous for being the King of Pop, and as Sir Bob Geldof put it, "creating some of the most glorious music in the pop canon".

That's true, but my point was more that the other oldies here--The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Muhammad Ali, Elvis--are universally known. They are talked about continuously and you'd have to be living under a rock not to know who they are today. The same can't be said for Paul Newman.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000056/ < There's your first primer on Paul Newman. Go from there.
Honestly, I'm not even sure if Elvis should be #1. You can make a strong argument for The Beatles, as well as MJ.
|
Paul Newman is alright, but IMO he isnt a bigger Icon than Marlon Brando since Marlon has reached our generation, and as you can see most kids dont even know Paul.

There's a good argument, actually. They were, basically, cut from the same cloth, but Brando was the better actor.
I don't know. I'd have to think about it.

I cant at Elvis being #1 and him and Madonna being higher than Michael What a fail of a list
Elvis did a lot but people overrate him and I notice most lists always seem to put him higher than Michael even though Michael who did way more in terms of achievements and impact on music.

I tend to agree that people overrate Elvis, but it's impossible to overstate his impact on the music industry. Hell, I'd make the argument that, without Elvis (and artists similar to Elvis), there would be no Beatles.

Well too bad, cause I could certainly live without the majorly overrated Beatles.

Not saying Elvis didnt have impact but compared to Michael's, he definitely isnt on that level yet people always put him higher than Michael on these types of lists.

And without the Beatles there is no modern pop music as we know it.
