Breaking: FIFA confirm a 48-team World Cup from 2026
16 groups
3 teams per group
2 top teams go through
All Group games decided on penalties

FIFA's council members have unanimously approved Gianni Infantino's plan for a 48-team World Cup.
The council members chose Infantino's plan above four other options, one of which was to leave the tournament in its current 32-team format.
The new structure, featuring 16 groups of three followed by a 32-team knockout, is scheduled to be implemented in time for the 2026 finals.

Well, I mean, the european qualifyers for the top European teams will lose all interest. So many will qualify that there'll no way the top teams will not.

What's even going to be the point of the qualys now? Basically all the tops from Europe and America will get in without breaking a sweat.
And the group fase will be a joke. Basically the real WC will start circa quarterfinals
