Beyonce "upstaging" Rihanna at the VMA's failed to stop Anti from outcharting Lemonade, I'm not sure what the Grammy's will do. But okay.

It's an established flop. And the tour numbers are disastrous. Why is there so much debate and chatter about this?

*Rihanna releases in November*
Haters: "She always relies on Q4"
*Rihanna released in Q1*
Haters: " There's no difference, Q1 and Q4 are all the same "

How many times does someone have to point out what kind of songs PI and MR are though I mean, I'm sure if Gaga threw out a Drake feature, Calvin collbab, and Mike-Will track she'd be doing fine too. What is everyone actually expecting from the Joanne era?

y'all sound kinda crazy atm and in a way, y'all are sort of shading Rih by saying this
|
Not necessarily.
Her team understands the climate that the music industry is in. Physical sales are at an all-time low. Streaming is the new frontier. It's not anyone's fault and they shouldn't be penalized for embracing the way the music industry has evolved and changed.
Bey has done remarkable in this sales climate, so kudos to her. She's been an album seller since the beginning of her career. Rih hasn't been the strongest album seller but she has sold enough and has proven in this climate that she can reach 600K+ in a climate where streaming is the most popular way to consume an artist's music.
So the argument is valid, ANTI is still charting higher. Can't deny that and can't penalize that.
If you do, then it's like showing up to a baseball game without a bat and still wanting to do better at the game.

nnn generic adult contemporary that the GP eats up and produced by Mark Ronson and Bloodpop? Didn't keep Taylor Swift and Adele from being the biggest female artists out right now. People just aren't here for Joanne because the music isn't up to par

The most successful albums this past year (except that random country album) is nominated for AOTY.
The sky is the limit for all those artists who the Grammys deemed important.

I'm sorry I'm confused, I thought MR was supposed to be her WBT? Whose fault is it really that Joanne had the touch of the producer with the longest charting number one of the decade yet it still couldn't produce a single that sold over 400K?

Week 11 - 7,000 (#31)
Welp. Forgot to mention that she also benefited from xmas/holiday sales in week 9 & 10. Every other week before that one she promoted her album like crazy.

You tend to forget that the week after the VMA, LEMONADE doubled its sales, Rihanna had an embarassing resurgence despite receiving the Vanguard and performing 4 ****ing times
Keep embarassing yourself it's delightful

What? Perfect Illusion is generic adult contemporary? I get that you're trolling with this thread but you can hang it up now.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm not denying Rih of her streaming capabilities nor the fact that it's helping her well on the charts and giving her lots of longevity. What I'm saying is that, Bey isn't in the very same 'game' you mentioned. So how is she losing or getting beat if she's not playing? Like a user pointed out before, it comes across as if you guys are implying that she can only "beat Bey" this era bc she's "not trying to win"... which I doubt is the case in reality bc neither care as much as we do.

Those are total sales. 100% reporting. It seems she has to promote every week for her album or at least give another discount if she doesn't have one in place already (its hard to keep count).

You think Perfect Illusion is some kind of experimental song? Yes, it's basic pop-rock produced by two of the biggest names with huge hits that she tried and failed to replicate the success of.
