I'd say it's a pretty solid lead.
The GaWC ranks London (1st) and New York (2nd) as the only two Alpha++ cities in the world. Hong Kong is 3rd, Paris is 4th and Tokyo is in 7th.
The Global Cities Index has London (62.7) and New York (62.5) significantly ahead of Paris (54.5) and Tokyo (46.7).
Obviously other cities are incredibly important to the world's economy; I guess the point I was making is that London and New York are constantly vying each year for the top place in the lists without any other city coming close to challenging for a top 2 spot.
