And, by the way, she IS the most iconic woman alive. Like, she goes beyond even a pop star of Madonna's caliber. I hope y'all get this

Thank you for your words of wisdom. I'm glad to see someone else on this thread thinking reasonably and rationally.

If the English and Welsh media can be blacked out over footballers cheating on their wives and Elton John's threeway, what makes you think they can't be blacked out over the Queens death?
Scottish media is free to do whatever it wants as English law doesn't cover it, but I honestly can't see any Scottish-only media being let in on the secret anyway.

WHEW thank god I wasn't born into the royal family. the stress of your relative dying and then you're instantly the monarch like *that*. ugh I can't

Being born wealthy because your parents or grandparents earned their wealth is different than simply being born wealthy by tradition. This is my opinion obviously, but you have more claim to your inherited wealth if your family earned that wealth. There is more of a parasitic nature to inheriting royal wealth, power, and privilege.
|
Yeah, but to have an Obama or Clinton-level member of government, it would pretty much have to be the Prime Minister, and she definitely wouldn't be able to do handle those duties on top of whatever it is she doing at the moment. (BREXIT crap in this case).
Maybe they could rope in someone like an ex-Prime Minister to do those kinda things, but I still don't think it would be enough to match the Queen.
I recognise that, there is slightly more legitimacy to someone being born into wealth/privilege that wasn't royal wealth, but it's kinda just two sides of the same coin.

I think Ronnie could construct a media blackout for her sister considering she can steal babies, kill Fatboy and survive a deadly car crash that left her in a coma for like 3 years. Maybe it's Phil tho. That would have the world SHOOK
|
Whew, I love Ronnie. She's such a bad bitch.
The way I was rooting for her on that Christmas night when she SNATCHED that baby.
Phil can't even snatch a new liver, he can't do **** compared to Ronnie.
but PLEASE, NO SPOILERS.
I'm still on episode 54732743!

I feel like HRC would have become the most iconic woman in modern history had she won the election. Even then, HRC, Elizabeth II, Merkel, etc. are all above female Hollywood celebrities. They have actually had power to rule and create large-scale change, and they are known in just about every country.

Queen Elizabeth is probably the most famous woman on earth but people aren't as emotionally invested in her like people like Madonna, Oprah etc. who had to make their own way themselves.

A pop girl will never touch the level of iconicness of the queen or any past reigning British monarch. Just no. Let's keep things in perspective ATRL.
I mean, literally billions tuned in to watch the ugliest duckling in William get married.
|
Ah so you're going to act like you said "most iconic alive!!" instead of "most iconic in history"?
Anywho, wishing Liz well and hope she's fine.

You'd be surprised. Queen Elizabeth has been a constant in the lives of our grandparents, our parents, our nieces and nephews and nearly every person on this earth.
I can't think of one person that has been so present through each and every event of the last half century. Her death will be like every celebrity death of 2016 x 100.

Right? Ronnie, Janine, Stacey are the bad bitch trinity of Eastenders.
They have the best storylines and best acting.

In the US, you have the current president as well as previous presidents attending international events. Hillary and Bill Clinton are obviously very famous, but even someone like John Kerry is highly regarded. I think removing the monarchy would shift the importance to key members of parliament (the UK equivalent of the Cabinet of the United States).
I don't see earned wealth as parasitic, so I have to disagree with you.

asd, I need Janine needs to come back (from prison?) soon
I was perched when Kat was on the bus and she saw Stacey for the first time in ages.
I feel like she didn't really live up to expectations though.
Even Ronnie nowadays, she's kinda too sensible for my liking.
