Mariah and Whitney will always be remembered for their unmatchable impact on the music industry. Not to mention Mariah holds records Beyonce ain't even close to breaking, or even matching anytime soon. Beyonce wouldn't even ave a place in the industry if it wasn't for artists like Mariah and Whitney, who paved the way for urban swaying artists to hit the pop market.

Just because Beyonce has an amazing talented PR team and is a bigger CELEBRITY - doesn't mean she can come close to surpassing ACTUAL artistry.

Embarrassing. Mariah literally has Kary Perry level acclaim. Beyoncé is a top tier artist and critics agree.

Most people in the world are 30+ and "Papa Don't Preach" is remembered. It was huge. Please don't negate the most successful female artist of all time because you think your generation is more important than others'.

I'm not saying my generation is more important, but we're Beyoncé's generation.

Also I don't think there's anyone who doesn't know a Beyoncé song. I don't think I've ever come across someone who can name those 5 Madonna songs or those 3 Mariah & Whitney songs but can't do the same for Beyoncé. Meanwhile I can name a plethora of people who don't know that many Mariah, Whitney or Madonna songs vs knowing a lot more Beyoncé songs, but that's also because younger -> Less likely to know older songs whereas older people still know the newer songs.

She ain't doing anything much innovative (Be either vocally, lyrically etc like the others) besides visuals. This doesn't make Lemonade less important than it is tho.

Then what about Gaga and Britney? Selena and Ariana too. Adele, Taylor...there is plenty of competition right now and the music industry is full of brilliant people. It's not easier to shine now than it has been before.

Gaga is okay "visually and artistically", Britney is not a respected artist. Selena isn't even a vocalist. Ariana is good, but the quality of her material is terrible. This generation can't be compared to 80's or 90's.

We can tell a 100 incredible, talented and respected people from those times, but not from our current moment.

Artistically only 5 or 6 people currently stand out tho.

Britney peaked a long time ago but Gaga, Ariana, and Adele are talented. no shade, but Taylor and Selena are not hard to compete with when it comes to critical acclaim. Taylor and Selena get clowned for their talent daily. The competition in Mariah' and Whitney's era is far more vast than it is now. This shouldnt even be a debate.
