I guess Adele just likes simplicity.
I mean she already has 2 videos & a live that will be remembered for ages.
Simplicity works well with her plus she's not spending her own coin.

Big budget videos and performances would isolate the GP who thinks she makes "real music" and doesn't need gimmicks or interesting visuals.

Dud I say she's the best vocalist ever? No Unless your fave is Madonna, Bowie, MJ or Prince he/she has brought nothing new. Everything has been done before. So sit or go hate on some talentless act
Fact is whatever she is bringing or not people connect to and love it. No her fault. Deal.
"Everything has been done before" is a straw man. Yes, no current mainstream artist has single-handedly invented a genre or musical concept. But there is such a thing in pop music as individuality and carving out a niche for oneself that sets you apart from the rest of the pack.
She's not my fave but I'll use Rihanna for example.
Within seconds of hearing it, you know for a fact that this song is a Rihanna song. The reggae-fused island style, her vocal inflections, etc. are all unique to her within the pop landscape. Did she invent reggae? No. But throughout her career she's managed to set herself apart from other pop artists by showcasing her unique qualities as a vocalist and upholding a "bad girl" mystique.
Adele's discography consists of pop ballads with simple piano or guitar instrumentation that are designed to show off her vocal ability. That's it. Her lyrics are standard love/loss tales and don't consist of strong wordplay (21 however is leagues ahead of her other two albums in that regard). If any other artist had released Hello, it would have gone unnoticed. Her voice sounds good in the studio and she emotes sadness pretty well, and thus it elevates her weak material, but that's all she's got going for her. Nothing about her stands out as an artist. She rode the wave of British soul that Amy started and then treaded into middle of the road balladeering. Heck, if she had committed to being a full on Amy-lite vintage soul singer complete with a jazz band, at least she'd be more interesting than her current bland musical persona. She seems like a warm, fun person, I really don't know why she bogs down her music so much. Obviously it's working for her due to her sales, but it remains boring.
