Only like 12 or 13 songs in existence have ever gotten a diamond certification while there are 80+ albums with diamond certifications. Clearly it was easier to get a diamond album in the Soundscan era than it is to get a diamond song in the current streaming era, especially given that music consumption in general was much higher back then.

Also I think xtina's debut would have been 9x platinum if they counted club sales.

Don't try to downplay gaga's thievery tactics to get in the million seller first week club.

Now matter what * will always be associated with that tactic.

Plus, with napster in it's peak in 1998-2001 and britney still went double diamond when people could just download it for free.

and she will never have a 1B video like JLO, Bieber, Taylor etc

she will never go #1 in singles again like Rihanna, Adele, Katy etc

she will never tour again like Adele, Beyoncé, Taylor, etc

she will never win any important awards like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Gaga, Taylor or Adele

nor will she get another #1 album again unlike 99% of the girls the army focuses on

it must be miserable being a britney stan in 2016, with JLO stomping on her in all aspects.

Godga is still part of the million seller club. No thievery was ever committed because the deal was not considered illegal back then and it was initiated by Amazon themselves, not her.

Anyways, the point is moot because Born This Way still opened bigger than Oops!...I Did It Again when adjusted for standard economic inflation.

not that i defend deadknee but these black and white comparisons are so unfound. they work better for overall sales but not first week sales since they don't account for the fact that the market has become more frontloaded over time. hence oops first week being 10% of its total sales vs Born this way's being 50%

I know so little about the Harry Potter universe (I've only seen the movies) but I liked Fantastic Beysts so much, I wanted to buy the first book and dive into the series.

This is true, but all it proves is that BOMT had better longevity than BTW in the states. The fact of the matter is that in their respective first weeks in their respective market conditions, BTW had the bigger opening.
