Honestly, I also prefer her voice between 2007-2011. I'm sad she doesn't have vocally challenging songs now, because that could give me a different persepective as regards her voice.
She growls a little bit too much and though her lows have improved, her belting is not as healthy or well mixed as it was back then. I feel she's pulling too much chest sometimes and sometimes the support is not there.
Her head voice is majestic but it always was, now she uses it more. Remember all those performances of Emotions back in the day? Her voice was as good back then as it is now, but other than that song, and Happy Face and Speechless, she barely used her head voice for high fifth or sixth octave notes.
I just hope her next album is a VOCAL album. I think it's due. Something funky, jazzy, modern R&B, etc. Like a B'Day + 4.
I feel like Lemonade was her opportunity to really BLOW her throat off and give us Vocal yoncé but she didn't. I would love a B'Day + 4 for B7 with a full band on tour....leave feeling myself etc off the setlist
