Come to Mama along with Angel Down, Joanne, and Grigio Girls have an overarching theme of appreciating the time we are blessed with here on Earth rather than wasting too much time on technology or other inconsequential parts of life such as judging others etc. because those who are taken from us early (Joanne, Trayvon + other victims of police brutality and injustice) and those whose time on this planet is limited (Sonja) are not concerned with these things.
The point of that verse in Come to Mama is that the psychic guru is a spiritual man who finds his pleasure in catching fish at his own pace and spending life doing what he wants, but all the people around him are more interested in working stable jobs rather than what they love, because society has told them that is the way. Hence 'they all tell you that freedom must be bought' but he's not only caught the fish, he's caught the freedom to do what he loves, and pays no mind to the interference from others.

Gaga too was abused and tested positive for lupus. One of her friends also suffered complications with the disease. All of this has given her sleepless nights thinking she's going to die as a result of stress from the music industry. Stefani has recurring dreams that she's going to be shot like her idol, John Lennon because of how fanatic her base is. It was only upon writing and recording Joanne with Mark Ronson that she was able to talk about these dark issues - a musical therapist (likewise with Amy when they wrote Back to Black.)

My personal theory is the first half (DH to PI) is about living, with themes of love and self-lovr () and hustling to make a living, but the second half is about death (and the fear of mortality), so it goes into living fully before dying.
But idk cos the title track doesn't really fit this theory so
After repeated listens, shuffles and so on I've decided this album is pretty flawless. Perfect Illusion truly interrupts the flow, though. Then Million Reasons doesn't really help following it (it's one of her better ballads, still appreciate it but it's way too corny-Nashville). It's taken some time to take this shift seriously and I'm still skeptical on all of it but the music grows on you. The writing is inspiring too. So I've tapped into that versus being annoyed by the image.
The album also really mirrors a lost Stevie album for me, who (+Fleetwood) is one of my favorite artists. Top 5 would probably go AYO, Hey Girl, Diamond Heart, John Wayne and Come to Mama.
Wish her well with the album and I'll definitely see her again. I've loved the Dive / SNL performances, the energy of some of the songs translate overwhelmingly well live. So should be fun.

It's so odd that people would call this album inauthentic, or another character Gaga has put on. She has referenced Joanne constantly throughout her career, and I mean it's even the name of her father's restaurant. I think it took the ARTPOP era for Gaga to hit rock bottom and search for answers within her family and friends.
