Yeah but that was at Gaga's peak, she was huge so when amazon announced that deal the amount of people who pounced on it broke their site. I'm sure plenty of people are talking advantage of the current discount but it's not like the full priced versions are not selling.

The 13.6% figure is a bit misleading. From the Nielsen mid-year report:

"New album releases have been most affected by the continued contraction, falling 20.2 percent overall."

So the decline is steeper than that for albums like Joanne and other pop girl releases.

Why would you compare Joanne to ARTPOP?

ARTPOP was put on pre-order 3 whole months before its release, resulting in over 100k digital sales only based on these preorders, while Joanne was only put on pre-order two weeks before its release.

ARTPOP had Applause, a #4 peaking single with over 130M AI radio audience and DWUW was already picking up steam by its release. Joanne has none of these.
