Apparently, Nevada's Senate debate got testy:
Democratic Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto started on the attack against her Republican opponent Rep. Joe Heck Friday night and didn’t stop until their one and only debate had ended an hour later.
Heck maintained a steady demeanor for most of the debate but became more aggressive during the second half.
Cortez Masto said it was “astounding” that Heck had not withdrawn his support for GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump until this past weekend. She called him “arrogant” and labeled him a “typical Washington politician” several times.
She criticized him for not responding to a question on tax policy, even though she had not responded herself.
That comment, about halfway through the debate, seemed to spark Heck who accused Cortez Masto of hypocrisy.
Cortez Masto’s aggressiveness may have been driven by polls which have shown Heck with a slight advantage in the race to choose the replacement for Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. The race is also one of a handful nationwide that are likely determine which party controls the Senate next year.
Political experts had said leading into the debate that it was unlikely to make a large difference in the outcome of the race unless one of the candidates made a significant mistake. Neither appeared to.
