What are you not getting though? Since you rejected the adjustment method, we can look at it relatively since we won't have to adjust. 1989 is THE bestselling album released in 2014, both domestically and globally. BOMT on the other hand was getting outsold by backstreet boys, santana and creed. 1989 is clearly bigger.

Oh plz. Taylor is one of the most commercially successful and dominant force in the music industry for a long time. Record labels have been dying to find someone like her to replicate the success.

Know why none succeed? A "Taylor swift" is not easy to manufacture. You can't just dress someone in scantily clad clothes and make them lipsync to prewritten pop songs by huge producers and expect to get yourself a "Taylor Swift". Taylor has a unique appeal and genuine talent. There's no other gurl that can write personal songs, breed a fanbase and garner acclaim the way she does.

That's also why she's able to be successful beyond 5 years and continually outpeak herself. NO ONE is able to replicate what she does.

Well because I'm not an american and not lived in the US so I can't tell if taylor 2006-2009 are bigger than britney 2005-2008.

But britney in 2007 are everywhere because of the meltdown.

Here in southeast Asia taylor became popular in the late 2008/early 2009 thanks to Love Story...
And alot of people in here including me became a huge taylor fans since that.
Sorry to say, before Love Story nobody know taylor (maybe only a hardcore country fans know her)

Please stop pitch both of my faves against each other.

They`re both the leading pop girls at their generation (even though Taylor was country before RED). The obsession of the media for those two gurls are insane, everything they does make headlines.

But im pretty sure Taylor will have a bigger 2nd decade than Brit, mainly because she know how to handle fame and use that to spread her music, and she still had a lot of room to grow on POP. While Britney is too naive for the industry, they completely crush her, at least now she had some moderate success single and be happy with her kids.

Yes for a breakdown, and the crazy amount of attention it got is just a testament to the power the name "Britney" has.

I mean you had that pretty graph with album sales, could you forward me to the sources of your numbers, maybe I'll be able to find the overall singles sold figures in there ?

Interesting that Swifties deliver facts and receipts (not only about sales) and the Army is like "Peak!1!1 Her meltdown alone!11!!".

Peak ≠ 10 years

As the receipts of the full decade show:
Success/Acclaim/Longevity = Taylor
Celebrity/Headlines = Britney

If you take away Britney's headlines after her early peak, you would have hardly heard or read anything about her as an artist. If you take away Taylor's few headlines, nothing would have changed.

And why is the Army trying it with the weak age argument. The Swifties base is one of the oldest of this pop girl generation on ATRL. Taylor's fanbase is one of the most loyal and people have been fans since her debut or Fearless. It's not that hard to figure out that most are in their twenties or even early thirties now, not to mention the 50+ fans she still has due to her country career.
