As a massive Goosebumps fan as a child I love this. Imagine the title sequence teasing 13 different stories in a phantasmagoria of horror influences.
Honestly, allowing the writers to burn through their ideas in a single script without having to attempt to stick to the changing whims of a long form horror story that they need to try to hang together despite wanting to **** **** up might be a blessing you never knew you needed.
We can see that having a 13 hour horror story set in one location can lead to staleness and lack of cohesion; maybe having it loosely hanging around a central story like V/H/S instead would allow them to experiment with ideas and form and aesthetic (which they already do, but like I said, they ultimately have to appease the ultimate season arc) and would be a hell of fun.
We have a set cast and location so I can't envision it happening (so keep your wigs on it's safe) but it would bring back the mystique the show had when it first premiered which they have tried so hard to engineer in the marketing. Bring it back to its horror roots basics and keep them ahead of the game (the anthology series remains an industry buzzword in large parts thanks to this show, it's inevitable that this is where the trend is heading).
Either way, I'm just hoping the season is as fresh as the approach they have taken with the PR this year. I'm glad at the very least we are getting some period horror again. I can't believe we are only a week out.
One of my friends who CLAIMS to have insider info (but I don't really believe him but it kinda sounds like a slay) says there is no subtitle, it's just titled AHS like MH. And he says it's an emphasis on AMERICAN Horror Story this season, like it focuses on all of the horrible things that have happened in America's past, like Roanoke, JFK assassination, 9/11 and etc. The episodes are somewhat independent of each other and are set in different time periods, they're of course chronological though. Meaning, the premiere is about Roanoke and the finale will be set in the present or the future. While episodes might be hundreds of years apart, they're all intertwined.
Like I said, he doesn't have like any credibility at all but I kinda like it tbh. It's risky, but could work if executed right.
If he's right, they're basically gonna take 10 American conspiracy theories and give explanations for them it does sound really messy but it could be good and the public would EAT that up.

Your friend is lying, there is most definitely a set title this season and it isn't different each episode. But this season does take place in multiple locations over the US, that I know for sure.

My tv in my bedroom lists the premiere as American Horror Story: The Mist...but then the tv in my living room lists the premiere as just American Horror Story 🤔
