Well Kai is exempted from Lotto promotion to heal from his injury. And Lay has skipped a lot of concert dates to focus on his Chinese promotion. I don't think sm is being too harsh. Besides the Lotto promotion isn't gonna last long much like LMR last year.
I honestly don't think the individual schedules are a problem cause I think the members themselves wanna venture out into their own promotion and do their own thing. And sm has given them leeway for that imo cause they barely has any group promotion. They're mostly just touring and performing at festivals here and there but unlike most groups exo doesn't really do variety shows or promote as a group a lot.
I don't know how Japan is gonna end up though
