The reason why Katy gets panned constantly is that her music is just devoid of any sort of personality and 'quirkiness' or whatever
Taylor and esp Carly latest releases are tongue-in-cheek and written not be taken that much seriously, it's simply good writing while Katy has songs like Roar and Dark Horse which are just as generic as it can get
She sings lyrics like I got the eye of the tiger and sounds like a parody
