It's the difference between a girl group launching off the marketing influence of a boy group like Infinite versus a boy group like B1A4. Things like Lovelyz' album sales and fancafe rankings and sns stuff is directly built off of Infinite's fan organization, which is much larger than B1A4's -- even to the point of crossing over into the mainstream.

As for the trend, when Lovelyz launched it was the most expensive girl group debut in the past few years. But since then, the promo has predictably slowed down a little (probably not related to Woollim running into a spot of trouble, dunno) on top of their inability to build off any sustainable success from their "Ah-choo" smash hit. And while nothing about Oh My Girl's debut year was cheap, they've clearly been keeping their power dry until about 5 months ago, and have built off of each successive promo...

There's only a handful of artists that do full albums right.

It's economics. Doing elaborate photoshoots and killing extra trees for paper and boxes brings a better return on investment than paying millions of won for filler songs. If only it wasn't so expensive to drop ship paper product internationally...
