All basic, those songs could've been sung by anyone
Me & My Girls is a Shakira rip off, Hands To Myself sounds like a Jason Derulo song, and IDJCHTD could've easily been done by Britney, Ke$ha, or any other electropop artist, I know this is a pop forum and most people here have a blind sense on what's truly innovative but this is absurd. The only pop artist from this generation who's done anything fresh and innovative is Gaga tbh and she's dead now.

Not IDJCHTD being fresh or or interesting . Is has one of the most generic 90s house inspired dance beat ever. That kind of music has been dominating European radio for the at least 2 years now. Such a watered down sound.
The Weeknd has miles more experimental sounds in his music than Carly or Selena especially on his early stuff.
You Need Me, I Don't Need You is leagues more interesting than anything Snorelena ever put out.
And while acoustic guitar-driven funk isn't an entirely novel concept, I don't think I've ever seen someone pull it off better than Ed. Jason Mraz tried it years ago, but most of his stuff was just embarrasing.

her songs may be all about sex but at least she explores different aspects of sex, and they all sound different sonically, from Cockiness and Watch N Learn to S&M and Red Lipstick and Skin and Rude Boy and Jump etc she experiments and takes things further than The Weeknd could ever hope to.
