But it's true she outlasted her peers and I hope her next album does well for her. She deserves it

Céline didn't have Super Bowl promotion for her last English album. Compared to Madonna, she barely had any promotion, so her sales are very impressive.

They were released a little over a year apart. That's not a huge gap, and Céline had less promotion than MDNA and RH.

why are the jj stans even in here?
THE queen of Pop is the best-selling female artist of all time...and this title is only based on ha records.
please don't let me start with ha tours, fashion lines, merch, parfums, cosmetics etc.....
plus she's adopted 2 kids from africa instead of stealing money from the poorest continent in the world while touring there.

This. I absolutely love Janet, I even stan, but they really gotta go. Rebel Heart went #1 in more countries than UB went top ten :0

MJ, Whitney, Prince, Janet, Mariah, Celine...all very popular artists on the African continent. Madgie? Not so much.

Yes. Yes they can. Mess. Stay perched in here tho.

Chimier and Mr. Wonder are not Janet stans. And I've denounced all organized stan groups. Madonna adopting 2 kids from Africa does not mean people here like her, or want to see her live. So I don't understand the correlation. In fact, her stealing that boy is the only time she made local news here. And the last time Janet toured Africa was in 2011, where she completed 3 sold-out shows. No money was stolen.

Because she is a legend, has always set trends and keeps re-inventing her image and sound.

"Africa stans"- You sound as smart as Raven Symone. Sit this one out.
But how nice that you were waiting on us. Shame we can't say the same for you.

Because being talented and being global always wins
Don't let these JJ stans fool you into thinking otherwise, just because according to them Madonna is not popular in... Africa

You can't just exclude the second most populous continent on the planet and still say "global".

Barbra Streisand, Kenny G, James Brown, are all popular acts as well. Even Queen and ABBA enjoyed a bit of success here.

The same 3 posters are still spouting the same thing?
Ever heard of going outside and getting some air?
It's tiring at this point.

If one is a commercial artist they can do just that. That HUGE continent contains not one major music market.

I don't blame them. It's not like their faves have anything left apart from marrying a millionaire to economically maintain her and cancelling tours due to not demand or rotting in their coffins. Glad Madonna serves also as a therapeutical tool to let their anger and frustration out. Queen of Pop not only outlived all her local peers but she is also the ultimate charity saint of Africa.

LMAO at this thread.
The only peer who's on par with Madonna is Celine Dion. The rest are just a seasonal hit (Mariah) or EXTREMELY frontloaded flops (Janet, I love her but COME ON). Whitney and Mj are rotting six feet under so they are out of the question.
And can we stop adding African countries to the whole global thing? They just don't matter that much sales wise, plus they have bigger problems to worry about Seriously no one cares if Janet sold more than Madonna in BoogaBoogaLand.
For the record, Madonna has been referenced and her image has been used in documentaries shot in Africa, plus she is the most liked singer in Malawi, you know, an African country
In short:
Celine: Resilient queen, may top Madonna tbh.
Madonna: Relatively succesful.
Mariah: A big flop with her talent tainted.
Jancel: Huge flop.
Whitney:

Talent really prevails.

Madonna has been over since 2012 (I'm being generous) and only became semi-relevant for molesting KING Drake on stage.
ATRL is the only place that thinks otherwise.

Well yeah if you're not popular here.
Celine, Prince, Sharkira, James Brown, Ciara, Beyonce, MJ, Janet, Whitney, Rihanna (just recently, but not as much), Gaga, and plenty others have had no problem breaking into the African market.
