Europe uses a lot of songs in French and Spanish, especially. "Roma - Bangkok" (in Italian) charted in other European countries earlier this year. But they're songs with a current sound and production, while k-pop music tends to sound... different, to keep it cute. They have different taste from us in Asia.
I'm not going to pretend I know anything about European music like you are about Korean music.
I agree about the desire for singers in the West to be "real artists". It's different in the Kpop idol industry. It's more about the group image, the personalities, sometimes the music. Being able to dance is a standard, though
Well, we can tell her songs apart to start with and her voice is easily recognizable. Also, she has credits on almost every song on ANTi and she tried to go "artistic" with her current era (and with Unapologetic as well). Can't say the same about the k-pop artists I've checked out so far.
There are artists that are going against the grain of typical K-Pop. The two best examples I can think of are HyunA and Ga-In. They're both controversial due to their image and music being too "risque" compared to typical cutesy groups. There are other examples, of course, but K-Pop really isn't all cute concepts and bright colors.
Although I don't think people would get that about HyunA if they only knew Bubble Pop and her appearance in the Gangnam Style remix, which I'm assuming is about the most anyone would know about HyunA if at all.

See? No one cares about dancing anymore here, it's something we left in the 00s. Also the focus is so not on music! That's the problem with k-pop. Different taste.

You have f(x) where Amber a song totally by herself withtout her label backing it up
You should check out SHINee (and Jonghyun) and BTS.

Do you people really cream yourself over this?
And also you are all so quick to judge us for not liking this nonsense trying to pass us as xenophobic or some other bs. But you are all just focused on 1 particular type of music ignoring the myriad of other fantastic genres and ethnic musics around the globe. Why this one particular type of music? Try to explore a little. How can people be so closed minded and one-dimensional with their tastes

Have you listen to Wonder Girls Reboot it a great album they write and produce every song on the album?
Gang am Style was a meme, but still a smash? Are you saying songs like the Macarena aren't smashes either? It wasn't a conventional hit by any means but it sold 4 million in the US with little airplay, had cultural impact and is still the most viewed music video of all time.
I wouldn't call it a smash still just as I wouldn't call Harlem Shake a smash.

Well that's expected because there are only a few musical groups in the West anymore. The Kpop industry right now is a little reminiscent to the West's group craze in the 90s and 00s, and it's way too profitable right now to scrap the groups and fit in with the Western music industry. Good music and genuineness is easy to find even in Kpop if you know where to look.
Check out the Wonder Girls (listen to Reboot) f(x), Mamamoo, Red Velvet if you're looking for talent
If you're not into the idol group stuff, AKMU is a popular brother/sister duo who write and produce all their music.

You're the one who said a whole genre was a joke but okay.

Kpop is one of the most accessible music genres in the world tbh, after English language music. There is so many types of music in the world but it's way easier to focus on one or two, and some people are comfortable with just one.
