Back in the 1800-1900's the Liberal Democrats were the dominant party, against the Conservatives. They used to win a lot. By the 1930s their vote share was practically nothing, since Labour had gained popularity among the working class. Now it's between them and the Conservatives.

Same thing with the U.S, a new party may rise up but it will only replace one, not join the race as an equal. And the voters will convert to that, for example of a new form of Democratic Party became popular, most existing Dems would just switch.

Yes, it's all because the UK and US (along with loads of other countries) adopt the "first past the post" voting system. The US can change it with a constitutional amendment but until then it's only ever going to be a reality that a major party wins. It's the entire reason Sanders joined the Dems (he joined in 2015) because he hasn't got a chance as an independent.

Obama is going to begin campaigning for the Democratic nominee on Wednesday. It's practically not a coincidence that it will be the day after Hillary reaches the number of delegates needed for the nomination.

I am not sure if he will make an official endorsement soon or not but it is almost obvious that he would endorse Hillary over Bernie.

I completely agree. Third parties are useless with the system currently in place.

I do consider myself one of those that believe voting third party is useless, even if they align best with your values and beliefs.

So that her win wouldn't be as big. Duh. This guy is the biggest hypocrite ever.

No one talks about Puerto Rico but it has the 24th largest delegate count in the country. 60 delegates were at stake, and a non viable win would have put her over the edge and his campaign knows this. They aren't stupid.

I read that a lot of people got fed up and left. The island had very low turn out, this didn't help at all

We'd need safe majorities in both chambers to have any proposal from a leftist pass easily. Democrats may get the Senate, but will have to work to get back the House.

If Hillary's proposals are going to be met with opposition, then imagine Bernie's if we only control one chamber.
