Something to note is that those are obviously scaled down. For example, there's more ships in the harbor on the first island in the first trailer than on the artwork. So it's probably bigger than it seems.
In saying that, I still can't picture where the gyms would be.

The island with the mystical tree + mountain looks like it has some type of subterranean caves, look @ the black rocks

My thoughts on the trailer:
- Solgaleo and Lunala's types are boring and disappointing, but they're still cool, I like them. Lunala is very unique.
- The character designs are great. The player is a bit basic, but still cute. Lillie and Hau are adorable, I'm thinking Lillie takes the starter stronger than yours. The professor is BAE.
- The Rotom Pokédex is brilliant, that was such a good idea. With 4 Pokédex for the 4 Islands, I wonder how many Pokémon will be available in game. Hopefully it's not too much, XY was overwhelming with that giant selection.
- Alola is absolutely gorgeous!
- I'm not sure how useful the QR Codes will be since we can just use the internet to find a given Pokémon, but it's a cute idea. And if it works for any QR Code we see, that'd be fun.
- Someone on Twitter had a theory that they're may not be tall grass as we know it. On the site, the Pikachu QR Code shows Pikachu's location in a specific bush. This makes me think that a Pokémon may only be found in a specific patch of grass in a route, rather than available anywhere in the given route. That'd be pretty cool.

I don't think the region looks small, it's looks about the size as the other regions. Maybe because it's broken up into four different islands makes it look smaller?
