Yikes @ saltiness in this thread .He spoke the truth. A hit song wouldn't guarantee longevity and impact. It sure as hell doesn't guarantee a sold out world tour and a success album.

I'm worried that if Bey would have had a #1 song her album would have drastically dropped down iTunes/Billboard or that she would be struggling to sell out tour dates like some of the girls.

Beyoncé has basically become Adele—as in, she'll only be relevant/talked about for a month or so after she releases a new album every two to four years. The main difference between Beyoncé and Adele is just the massive sales. In any case, as I've mentioned before, I'm glad Beyoncé has stopped doing interviews, but I still miss Hitmaker Beyoncé. "Indie Beyoncé" is boring and repetitive, another quality she shares with Adele. Hitmaker Beyoncé was more interesting visually and sonically.

I omitted Janet's name when I quoted that user. Madonna and Janet are NOT on the same level. Madonna has had a constant stream of hits for the last 30 years while selling tons of albums, which is why she has such a broad fan base. Janet doesn't have the same classic catalogue, and her legacy was wiped out by the NFL, so we really shouldn't even discuss her.

it's not like she couldn't get one if she wanted. Sorry is T10 on iTunes but has been at the pits of the Hot 100 due to no streaming and she doesn't give two ****s. She is building/has built a legacy where, she won't have to depend on radio, streams, video views etc, to determine how successful she is. Once most of your faves have peaked in these areas and become irrelevant, they're pretty much done. Tell me this is a lie.

There are other songs (Hold Up, 6 inch) that have potential, but Bey don't care.

She hasn’t just done music, what she’s doing now transcends music—she’s creating culture. I always say one of the most dangerous things is for an artist to believe they’re the hit and not the song—the song is what got you here. In super-supremely rare instances, artists themselves become the hit. Beyoncé is officially the hit. Adele is the hit. The rest of us still need to write the hits, one after another.
