Right!? And most of them in general do the same crap eg strong STAB (because they have so many to choose from) + elemental punches + knock off etc so boring and overdone

Even as a Fighting stan, I have to say I agree. We've had one Fighting starter in every single region since Hoenn. That's insane.
I love Infernape, and I like Blaziken and Chesnaught, but come on, it's enough already.

Should I get Pokemon X/Y? I'll definitely get Sun/Moon when it releases this November, but I'm thinking that I should get X to get me reacquainted with the series. I really didn't like the ORAS demo.. The world felt rigid, like it was all completely a grid. It's a remake of a GBA game so I get it,. Is XY like that? Or is it more free and natural?
Basically, is it worth $35~? Or should I just wait for Moon?
Yes, buy it. X and Y were a significant step forward for the series and were, in my opinion, some of the best games so far. Also, if you haven't played ORAS in full, I'd recommend them as I found them to actually be the best games in the series, especially if you enjoyed the original Hoenn games.
Right? Like, even the ones I totally despise that nearly made me lose faith in the franchise (Gen 5, looking at you) bring something valuable and bring a unique experience. I don't think anyone should ever skip a main series game - they might want to do only one of every two paired versions and that's fine, but people should get one of the two for every paired main series release and should probably get every third version (I'm of the opinion that the paired versions bring a different experience and should be played in addition to third versions, not replaced).
