They can come back if they have enough points to re-enter the top 50 & are increasing in chart points, though the exact rules are a bit unclear, as Billboard seems to handle it on a case-by-case basis.

Billboard's policy on letting older songs re-enter the Hot 100: Songs are allowed to re-enter the Top 50 immediately after the artist's death (as with Prince and Whitney Houston), or after two consecutive weeks of gains. My Boo had a second straight week of gains, just like Uptown Funk was almost certainly in the T 25 after the SBHT performance. However, BB waited until UF's Grammys boost to let it re-enter (a remarkable feat given the hideous 25/52 rule) at #22. One week boosts are seen as "flukes" of sorts, no matter how big they are, and Silvio has said such a song must show sustained growth to re-enter the T 50 (< 52 wks) or T 25 (> 52 weeks).
