Do we applaud the KKK for sticking to their message? Lol, his views and messages are backwards and disgusting.

Well, Cruz is not a KKK member, and even the borderline comparison isn't acceptable.
I applaud progressiveness whenever I see it and I advocate for progressive results, but that is not going to stop me from reaching out and connecting to people across the political aisle. I can disagree with Sen. Cruz's stances day and night (which I do), and I can consistently call out his votes on the issues which go against many of my values and personal beliefs, but he deserves to be applauded for adhering to what his constituents elected him for; he's doing his job and representing the very core components and values that got him into the Senate to represent the state of Texas in the very first place. Disagreeing with someone on their
subjective "backwards" beliefs shouldn't be stopping people from reaching out to them, applauding them for persistently sticking to their ideology and justly presenting their constituents in the highest legislative chamber in the country.
The US doesn't just exist of progressives unfortunately, and virtually nothing would come out of the legislative branch if the left stopped reaching out to the right side of the spectrum (and vice versa) — you have to find common consensus and work with people on every angle of the spectrum.
The political world is more fluid than black & white, it is more fluid that right & left. We often judge people by how they stand on partisan issues (which is fine, but that's only one side of the coin) - Cruz is a bright man who has demonstrated good leadership, knowledge and generally made sure conservatism would always remain in existence wherever he existed. I will personally refuse to call Senator Cruz "Lyin' Ted" or simplify things to "Trump >>>>>> Cruz" because Trump is '[
secretly a liberal]'. I will continue to say why I think Hillary and Bernie would be much, much better presidents, though.
