When I was watching Lemonade I couldn't help but wonder why Madonna never attempted to make a visual album or a long-form music video. The secret project was forgotten quickly after it was released although it was an interesting direction for Madonna. In my opinion, Rebel Heart would have been a great visual album due it being so eclectic and having so many different visual opportunities, especially when you consider the original concept of the album showing two distinct personalities. Do I think Madonna should follow Beyonce's path? No. After self titled and now Lemonade, Beyonce completely owns the visual album field and nothing will ever be able to top her. I think 90s/early 2000s Madonna could have pulled something like this off (imagine American Life: The Visual Album including the original AL video ) but now? I don't want to say she's lazy but she definitely has other priorities outside of music and I simply don't see her caring enough to film a dozen music videos for one album or make something as complex as lemonade. It seems as though persuading her not to follow through with the original RH concept was pretty easy therefore I can imagine Guy/Interscope/Live Nation easily persuading Madonna not to make a visual album if she ever raised the idea to make one (which would probably have high production costs which would be better spent in their eyes on touring). I think the Iconic backdrop video would have been a fantastic long-form music video if she cared enough to make one.

The part I made bigger is pretty much why Madonna will never do this - she does her own thing better than anyone, and that's touring. She has the best tours, and she knows how to put together the absolute
best show. She definitely reinvented the music video, and it's like academically understood that re-creating a music video in a live performance is something that Madonna founded - so like her "Living for Love" performances were just that, she brought the video to live, and incredibly. But yeah, she doesn't have time / care enough to put
that much effort in.
TBH it's a shame I don't enjoy Beyonce's music, cause these two visual albums are really amazing, and it's a shame Gaga didn't come up with something like this. God knows what LG5 will be, but she stole all the good ideas.
