This is being filmed in Wellington, New Zealand, literally outside my work. The street has been turned into "Tokyo" but is open during the week as it's a main thoroughfare, but closed during the weekend for filming.
It's pretty cool, the white-washing is a mess though.
Seriously though - it's time to cast Asian actors in lead Western roles. (Though I understand that makes people think it's an "Asian film" and racists get turned off. Like I get why they cast white celebs to draw in interest, which is the only reason anyone in Wellington is excited about this film being made here, but it's JAPANESE. That being said - why didn't Japanese film makers make this?
