The common complaint I'm seeing in the negative reviews are "It's not fun", "It takes it self way too seriously." (and other variations of this) "Zack Synder - followed by them trashing his directing history)", etc. etc.

Interesting critics. I wonder if they're warranted or if maybe they went into the film expecting something else, tone wise.

Um. The Winter Soldier was a political thriller with Robert Redford. It's crazy how many DC fanboys believe that tonal darkness equals thematic maturity.

Coincidentally enough, if you look the ones who said things about the film not being fun, too serious, etc, they gave fresh ratings to Age of Ultron. The Wrap, and THR specifically.

I'm sure we'll see this trend continue as reviews come in. It's very interesting!

Well. If anything the genre is probably leading towards fatigue as fast as we could even imagine.

The next few years will feature Fox releasing at least one or 2 a year

Marvel releasing 3

And DC releasing at least 2 or even 3 starting in 2018

I think they can sustain it till the end of this decade. Then many people will just move on but I'm not sure to what exactly since Disney will also oversaturate the market with annual SW movies and then there are small movies which are already disappearing or going to Netflix.

My level of interest in scheduled DC films:
Suicide Squad - Some. I like Cara and Viola.
Wonder Woman - Some. Cool, a female superhero film.
Justice League - Very low for now. More Snyder.
Flash - Very low. There's already a show.
Aquaman, Green Lantern - Very low.
Shazam, Cyborg - Who?

Mad Max is dark and fun, to be fun is not to be silly like Marvel movies

Not really understanding why WB wants to make standalone movies for Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman and Shazam though, there doesn't seem to be much hype/demand for them... Marvel somehow turned Antman into a box-office hit but I don't know how WB can do the same.

I think it all went wrong with Snyder thinking he can imitate the tone of the Nolan movies, it just doesn't work for those other characters.

I'm not nervous at all. I'm not that invested in DC's movie so i don't really care how it does at the box office. (It'll probably do great anyway). And Man of Steel didn't get great reviews either and i still enjoyed that so i still have high hopes for this

The only thing i'm slightly worried about is the runtime. I know its the norm nowadays for films of this nature to be that long, i'm just hoping it doesn't affect the pacing

Mess I expected it ti be below 80% on RT but damn ... never saw that coming, I just can't understand why they complaint about the movie not being fun as if it was suppossed to be, from the first promo images to the last trailer the tone and the mood were darker and grim.

The thing is, can you imagine DC trying to make Marvel toned movies?

The DC characters are just harder to portray. Aside from Batman, the DC Justice Line Up looks like

Superman - Super OP, almost invincible in every way, AND also a goody goody.

Wonder Woman - She will literally live forever. Extremely strong, has her weird magic lasso and ****. She's the daughter of Zeus.

Aquaman - King Of Atantis. While holding the trident becomes basically a version of Poseidon.

The Flash - a speedster, the FASTEST of all of them. Can literally move through time.

Green Lantern - A human.... right but when he uses the ring he can create anything he wishes to.

Cyborg - meh, the only reason they're doing him is because he is black and if this universe does well, commercially, he could be the tie in to bring the Teen Titans in.

Shazam - Basically another version of Superman, athough he does present a nice opportunity along with the Flash, to make a light hearted movie.
