If I'm trying to venture into the discog of an artist with a large number of albums I'll usually start with the one whose singles appealed to me most and/or the one generally considered to be their best.
I generally don't have enough patience to sit through an artist's entire catalog if I don't have some degree of assurance that I'll like some of their deeper cuts.
