Thanks for your comments guys. Since I missed a day yesterday (Christmas was so busy) I will do a double today.
Marching On/Everybody Loves Me - OneRepublic
I never really got into OneRepublic's first album for some reason, bar "Apologise" and "Stop and Stare", and when their first single "All The Right Moves" was leaked, it was okay, but that's about it. And then one day I started listening to "All The Right Moves" again and for some reason, I fell in love with it. Soon after the album leaked and because of my new found love, I downloaded it and loved it.
The beat is the first thing to hit you in "Marching On", and then come Ryan's vocals, which are quite lovely. The production is fantastic (I do love me some Ryan Tedder), simple during the verses, building in the chorus, giving it a special power to it which just works wonderfully with the message.
"Everybody Loves Me" attracted me early on and is still one of my favourites today. The start always reminds me of Just Shoot Me's opening title's music for some reason. From then on, the infectious beat with one FANTASTIC melody just takes you on a ride. The chorus is no exception, using layered vocals to great effect in some areas, simply killing it as a whole every time. Fantastic to bop along to, or go all in and dance to.
Fantastic tracks which, along with the rest of the album, will ensure I keep my eye on OneRepublic instead of just Ryan's songs sung by other people.
Russian Roulette - Rihanna
Being a huge fan of Rihanna's ever since she released "Pon De Reply", I was highly anticipating her fourth album. As with a lot of others, I was not expecting what was given to us, but drank it up and adored it nonetheless.
First single "Russian Roulette" is easily one of my favourite ballads from the past couple of years. Slick production during the verses gives you this fantastic eeary feel, accompanied by some of Rihanna's most outstanding vocals. Led into a power-driven chorus by some of the only drums throughout the song, you feel as though you just want to belt out the whole thing with as much emotion as possible.
There is nothing I don't love about this song, and thank Rihanna for taking this route for her 4th album instead of leading it up with GGGB vol.2. Rated R, along with "Russian Roulette" will definately be a big part of my 2010.
Sorry for my crappy write-ups today, I am in quite a lazy mood. But make sure you aren't and put a reminder in you mobile for tomorrow's update!
This era probably got me appreciating Ryan Tedder and his works more. I was never into his craft but it seems like he's getting even better as time goes by, evidently in his songs. A bit formulaic if you ask me but why fix it if it aint broke?
Thanks a lot for your comments guys. Even if you don't agree with my choice I still appreciate you taking the time to reply. Thanks.
Take It Off/Backstabber - Ke$ha
Ke$ha blasted into the scene with the highly addictive "TiK ToK" and had me hooked from then. Slowly, leaks surfaced and they only got better and better.
"Take It Off" is a beast. That base. My God. Trashy, fun, dancey, what more could you ask for? One of the best dance tracks to come out of 2009. Nothing more needs to be said.
"Backstabber" however is a peppy little number which sees Ke$ha calling out a friend for, you guessed it, backstabbing her. This fun song has a massively addicting chorus, and was, other than "TiK ToK", one of the first songs from Ke$ha to be *****d by yours truly.
HUGE honourable mention to Ke$ha's full album, especially the tracks "Animal", "Hungover" and "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes". A great dance album which surprisingly doesn't just prevail with the dance songs, the mid-tempo ballads proving Ke$ha isn't a one trick pony. Had it come out earlier this year, I wouldn't be surprised if it topped this list, and more songs from her were present.
Make sure you call in sick for work tomorrow 'cause I'll be posting another instalment.
The song that made me pay attention to Kelly Clarkson, instead of just liking her for her music. I remember the first day I heard this song because it was my birthday. The middle of January and I was reading the Thursday paper as I always do (No Birthday of mine could keep away such tradition!) and I caught a review of "My Life...", and I thought to myself "Oh ****! Kelly has a new song out? I love her songs!" and went straight to Youtube to check it out.
Over the next few months I would have been surprised if I had of listened to anything else bar that song. I loved everything about it. The simple verses, poppy and fun. And then that power-house chorus. To me, it is the perfect pop chorus. Nothing will ever come close to it. It's simply a masterful creation and I love every second of it.
The song that made me look at Kelly, and from there other artists, as more than just people who make music for the radio. This song made me seek out more about music, and in turn, lead me to ATRL. (I know this song just lost a few fans reading that! ) I will always remember this song, and the day I first heard it. My most played song of all time, and continuing to get plays to this day. I have nothing but positive things to say about this song.
After that stan-like commentary, I'm sure y'all want to come back tomorrow to see what beat out this song for number 2, so set your TiVos to record your favourite programs, because you don't want to miss it!
I finally put together my favourite TV programs of 2009, so I'll post 6 today, 7 tomorrow and the final 7 when I announce my top track.
